The Mrs and I recently went to Derby to visit my brother, and the 4 of us (one of his friends came along) went here for some dinner on a saturday night. It was by no means the worst curry i've ever had, but it certainly wasn't the best either.
There is no indication on the menu how big a family naan is, and the staff certainly don't let you know either. We weren't sure if it would be enough for the 4 of us, so we ordered a family naan and also a "regular" one. When it came, we were totally shocked. It was enormous. So big that some people actually stopped in the street outside and pointed and laughed. Even a group of 4 people, including 3 big lads, couldn't finish it!
By total contrast, the rice portions were tiny. Ridiculously small in fact. And they were wet and oily which wasn't nice. Very strange rice indeed. The mushroom rice had one button mushroom in it. chopped up as small as possible. Weird.
My girlfriend had the Lamb Rogan but she couldn't finish it because it was so oily. I had the Chicken Royal (one of their "specials" i believe), and it was bland, dry, and no particularly great. It said it had cashews in it, so you would expect them to be mixed in with the meat and sauce. Nope, they were just nestling on top of the sauce. Totally random.
My brother and his mate seemed to like their curries though, i just can't remember what they had!
However, the worst part of the meal was the staff. Totally useless. One of them came round to take our order but we weren't quite ready so we asked for another 2 minutes. It was another 20 minutes before we saw another waiter! In fact, we had a different waiter come to the table each time. This caused chaos with the bill.......
.......we ordered a round of drinks with one of the waiters, but the drinks never came. So we collared another waiter and told him we'd placed an order but the drinks had never arrived, so he went and got them. However, when the bill came they'd tried to charge us for the round of drinks that never materialised. The waiter wouldn't take them off the bill, and in the end we had to get the manager over.
More to the point, according to their pricing structure, 2 pints of Cobra is exactly the same cost as 3 pints of Cobra and a pint of Woodpecker. Make sure you check your bill carefully!!
