We only called here for a drink, but found this historically-interesting pub relaxed and friendly. It was quiet on the Sunday night when we visited, but the interior is spacious, with several rooms. A good choice of cask ales.

Vintage Pub with rooms. Only just outside the City walls. Comfortable bed clean room. A really good full cooked breakfast included in the price. Hotel price is a bit expensive for what it is but this is York. The pub is just what you expect from an old English Pub, different rooms and spaces, lots of different beers (and gins), even a bar billiards table which I havn't seen for years.

We stopped one night because we were going to the theatre. The room was spotless. The breakfast was really good and came out piping hot. We went into the bar before we went out. Such a friendly place. Made us feel really welcome. We felt like we were locals. In fact instead of going out after theatre we went back to the pub. The staff were so friendly and so we're the customers. We would definitely recommend the wagon and horses and wouldn't hesitate to stop again. It was 5 minutes from the centre and attractions of York and also had free parking which was a bonus. Well done wagon and horses

We booked here to go and see Bill Baily at that Barbican. It's just a five minute walk around the corner. You pass a Coop so pop in for goodies instead of buying them in the theatre. Pub is 2017 . Camra pub of the year. The beers are very good. Lincolnshire Batemans is always on. Some good ciders too. Breakfast was excellent. Full Yorkshire but you have plenty of other choices too. The host was very helpful.

Just spent 3 days staying at the Wagon and Horses in York. We had a lovely stay and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. We had a large room on the front which we thought the noise from the traffic would keep us awake but it didn't bother us at all. Likewise there was no noise from the pub either. There was a good choice on the breakfast menu and mine hosts were quit happy to put together any combination you asked for.
The room itself was very pleasant, plenty of wardrobe and draw space and a big six foot bed. The pub is situated outside the walls a 15 to 20 minute walk into the shops and attractions.
