Having stayed at Hillcrest Guesthouse once before, it was an easy choice for my second visit in York. I yet again felt very welcome, and even got the same room as my last stay. A room just perfect for my needs; en-suite bathroom and on the second floor. In the morning you are served delicious breakfast, both English breakfast and cereals and other selections. The guesthouse about a 10-15 minutes walk away from the centre of York, which I like because it is quiet at night. Close by there is a street with shops and restaurants, so you don't have to go to the centre of town to buy food and snacks. The guesthouse lies close by a park, which is nice. And it also has parking close by. I am definitely coming back to Hillcrest Guesthouse.

Room Tip: Very welcoming staff.

The perfect place to stay for a trip to York. We stayed as a family of 2 adults and 3 children for 2 nights in July. We were made to feel very welcome, very homely and a fantastic breakfast! It is ideally situated for a walk into the city centre and would definitely recommend a stay here.

what a wonderful stay we had at your guest house. This is the third time we have stayed with you and we have never been disappointed with anything.

Also a big thank you for going out of your way to make a wonderful packed lunch for us as we had a very early start and could not have breakfast. That really kept us going until later.

Its these little touches that makes your guest house so special. The attention you give your guests is commendable.

A very big thank you from all of us. We shall definitely be recommending you as we have done in the past and of course stay with you when we visit York again.

What i find. Visited York for Raceday weekend with 4 friends and made to feel extremely welcome by Ian at the Hillcrest. Very friendly and helpful service, very personal approach, gave excellent advice on where to eat and see. Rooms comfortable with tea/coffee facilities, lovely full english breakfast with continuous tea/coffee toast. (cereal etc also available if you would like) 10 mins from racecourse or town. Would certainly return for a weekend break.

My family and I stayed at this guest house for 2 nights at the beginning of June. It is located in a good location, around 15-20 minute walk to the city center. The landlord warmly welcomed us on arrival. Luckily, we did not have to go upstairs (my aunt is old) because we got a family room on the first floor. It looked clean but slightly outdated. The room had 1 double bed and 2 single beds. The en-suite bathroom was very small but acceptable. We could also see the beautiful garden in front of the guest house from our room. The breakfast was very good although we had to wait for the table in the second morning. The landlady helped us call a taxi to the train station and we were allowed for 30 minute late check out.

However, we felt somewhat disappointed after staying in the superb apartment in London. Firstly, even though the showerhead flew quite slowly, the shower drain was blocked and we had to wait for the water to run off. I told the landlord in the next morning while we had breakfast, but no one fixed it. Secondly, the washbasin is very very small so we could not put the kettle under the tap to fill it. Lastly, the radiator was turned off on the second night while the temperature was less than 10 degrees Celsius. Both landlord and landlady did not stay at the guest house, so I had to make a call. They said that the central system was turned off because it was in the summer season already, but I was wondering why on the first night it was turned on.

All in all, the guest house was our good place to stay in York. However, we felt 119 pounds/night was too expensive for the room condition and the services provided.
