This is quite an old building in the centre of Whitby, a seaside town that has, to be frank, seen better days. It is quite easy to find, but the car park is a bit more of a challenged. It is at the rear of the main building and can accommodate about eight of ten cars. I don't know if it is true of all the rooms, but we could not get to our room from the hotel reception. You have to out again and enter either by a main street or back door. There's no lift so heavy cases will have to be dragged up to the first floor. The room was clean and comfortable, and had a, somewhat unnecessary, four poster bed. The hotel is showing some signs of age, but it is central (two minutes walk from the harbour or the steps up to the abbey ruins), certainly has character, and has pleasant, friendly staff.
The restaurant is in the main building. The food is about average - a decent, if unexceptional, meal, and averagely priced. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and is the usual mix of fruit juice, cereals and "full English".
All in all, probably the best place to stay in the town, and reasonable value for money.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with four poster beds - a bit bigger and more comfortable.

We stayed two nights 8-10 September we were in the annex which had its own car park. The room was very clean and spacious and was comfortable. We were able to have the window open as we were on the first floor which was a real bonus with the hot weather. Breakfast was lovely and the service was excellent. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Location was excellent will definitely go back.

Having looked forward to a break in Whitby we arrived at Bagdale Hall to find we were stopping in the Lodge up the hill! The room was tiny the noise from the room next door was loud the room smelt stuffy the car park full of pot holes and puddles. At £120 for a night you expect a nice comfy room. This place is like a youth hostel room. If your looking for a room in Whitby DO NOT book Bagdale Hall! Save your money and stay at home. Disappointed is not the word
