Stayed for one night.

Arrived pretty late but had a quick drink in the bar which was reasonably priced.

Room was a decent size and bed was comfortable however room looked tired as did the bathroom.

For the price paid nothing spectacular and a very odd location for a hotel.

Gavin, thanks for the positive comments about your room and bar.

We would like to be "spectacular" all the time and will keep trying to be.

You probably didn't stay long enough to appreciate our position but we are ideally situated for the airport, the city and the North Norfolk coastal areas.

This is not really a very typical Mercure hotel. It's a huge facility with lots of room to stage wedding receptions, concerts and parties. Like a lot of 'event locations' the hotel rooms seem to be of secondary importance. It was quite noisy and the location wasn't the best I'm afraid.
The room was fine, but suffered from having adjoining doors,(no noise insulation) so we were woken at midnight when the two people next door arrived back.

Sally we try very hard to be a warm welcoming hotel as well as a conference and events venue.

The hotel is without doubt our priority so your comments will be taken most seriously.

Thank you for a most balanced review.

We were invited to a function on a Friday night, and decided to stay over. Food OK, and live music very good. Our room was more than adequate and we slept well. No noise. Staff friendly, welcoming, helpful. Very good breakfast.

Very convenient for an overnight stay near to UEA to visit our daughter. Large room and well stocked for towels and toiletries.A warm welcome from the reception staff and the entrance large and modern decor. It is a hotel that I would think is used more for conferences rather than a weekend away. We chose this hotel because it has a swimming pool and sauna and steam room. The pool was small and the pool area looked rather sad and tired with some blue panels hanging down from the ceiling. The sauna and steam room were lukewarm so rather disappointing and worrying that they were not hot enough to avoid bacteria growth. The bar area was busy and service a little slow. The system to enable us to put our drinks on the hotel room didn't work. We had dinner in the restaurant which was nicely decorated and large and we were the only table in there. I had the tempura calamari which as I have seen in other reviews and agree was not tempura but a thick batter like you might have on onion rings. The windowsill in the restaurant was covered in fine glitter and dust and we had to go to other tables to find a clean polished glass to drink from. The meal was disappointing particularly as it was also fairly expensive at around £30 per head for two courses and wine (3 of us eating) A member staff telling us that she been racing round like a "blue xxxxx fly" and then saying they didn't have any Khalua to make a martini espresso and that last week they didn't have any Cointreau so they used Grand Marnier!. We had only asked for drink which featured on the menu. We could hear from our room dull thump of music - so lots of little niggles which individually didn't seem worth mentioning at the time but on writing a review seem to be important to future guests. As a bed for the night it is perfect and well priced - I would however recommend you eat out for all meals.

Room Tip: We had a family room

Thank you for the positives Glyn and I have noted all the little niggles which I understand do add up.

We benefit from honest, balanced reviews so I appreciate your candour.

The good in the brasserie was overpriced and very disappointing. The tempura squid was just deep fried in a heavy batter and the ribeye steak just gristly. The prawns were frozen and not fresh. Restaurant was empty and not difficult to see why. I complained online but received no reply

Warren

I am so sorry we disappointed you. I have not seen an online complaint but please treat this as an personal apology from me.
We don't often get it wrong in the restaurant but when we do we should apologize profusely.
