In summary this is a beautiful pub but let down by terrible service and even worse food.

We booked for a group of 6 adults at Sunday lunch. When we arrived the dining room was full of several children’s parties. Of course this is fair enough but as a group of grown ups we asked to be seated in the far corner where it was quieter.

Half an hour later we had to find our own seats in the bar area but we had to clear the table ourselves. After ordering we waited and waited for our food to arrive and when it did it was stone cold. The roast beef cost £19 and only included one slice of meat.

After complaining the management assured us this was just a bad day. After reading the reviews I think not.

Hi Ellie,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review - we welcome all feedback, both positive and negative, as it goes towards ensuring we provide the best possible service moving forward.

We recognise that yesterday was a poor day and are sorry to hear your found your experience at the Bull & Gate disappointing. We are taking immediate measures to amend the staffing issues in the kitchen in order that we continue to maintain the food and service excellence we have striven so hard to uphold in the past.

I do hope your less than satisfactory experience with us yesterday won't put you off visiting us again in the future and allow us to demonstrate to you our usual levels of both food and service.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

What can I say. Simple order took 50 minutes to arrive, they acknowledged messing up our order. Fish pie was nearly entirely mash potato. No fish! Beef shin stew had less meat than a McDonalds burger. Roasts OK. Complained several times. Dessert never came. Totally amateurish with poor service and 2 cooks (open plan kitchen) serving a massive pub. This place will shut down soon. Terrible. Go to Bull and Last or The Star or even the Lion and Unicorn all nearby and better than this insulting joke!

Good food average London prices however the service was a bit haywire ! Ordered a SPICED rum and coke to be brought a glass of ice with a slice of lime. Asked for some rum to be put in it only for it to be brought back with another slice of line still no RUM.! Ended up going to the bar myself
Anyway a handy place before concert at the Arena

Slightly concerned about the amount of recent negative reviews as we had a wonderful Sunday Roast here recently. The atmosphere of the restaurant area is great, with a lovely large skylights making it bright and lively. We both had roasts, beef and the vegan nut roast, which were both brilliant. It was the best vegan Sunday roast I had ever had. Even had a vegan Yorkie, which was a bit small and dense but to be expected with no eggs.

Service was not the fastest, it took about 20 minutes to eventually settle the bill from first asking for it.

Would happily spend any chilly day in the pub curled up by the fire and will definitely be back for the roast. Recommend booking ahead to eat in the dining room.

Big beautiful traditional pub in Kentish Town.

Popped in for an after work beer. Limited staff in a fairly quiet pub still meant a long wait to be served. Overall the service is very sloppy & casual with people served out of turn & no acknowledgement of how long you’ve been waiting, which really annoys me

This could be a cracking pub if they would just get rid of the “too cool for school” sloppy overly casual bar service.

Note to Manager. It doesn’t impress to hear staff swearing at each other behind the bar whilst serving my drink!
