I visited The Oxford Arms on a Saturday Evening and I enjoyed a pint of real ale. Decent beer at a decent price and the atmosphere was good also. Well worth a visit.

We called in on Friday evening and ordered wine but they didn't have any wine glasses and so the barman went off to pick up some dirty ones from the pub tables. We were going to the theatre upstairs and time was getting short.
The barman returned and put the glasses in the dishwasher where they would take "a few minutes". Eventually he then poured the wine and the bottle was empty so he had to go downstairs with keys to get a fresh bottle. A barmaid offered to bring the drinks upstairs so we could catch the start of the show so we paid and left.

The drinks didn't materialise and so after the show we went to the bar to collect them. It took a while to get served and the original barman initially was vague about what had happened before and then said he was on a mission and so not able to deal with it. My husband said that he expected to be served and we wanted the wine which we had paid for plus 2 gin and tonics for some friends. The barman grudgingly delayed his mission and dealt with the drinks but then someone (who we assume to be a manager) popped up and said that we shouldn't speak to her staff in that way. My husband said that as a service industry they shouldn't treat customers in that way. The manager then walked off without saying anything further. We got our drinks and left fairly quickly vowing to never return!

We went on a Saturday night with friends. If you want somewhere buzzy, loud and fun, this is for you. Never tried the food but it looked like you’re average bar fare. I personally found it too crowded do my liking and the music didn’t come on until late.

Corner pub opposite the Elephants Head. Busy pub with first class service. Ales are always good and standing room only most of the time. Lots of wobbly tables on a cramped seating area . On the main road and always sport on tv. Good outside drinking area. Well worth a visit.
