“Well worth a look”

Paddington Waterside
Ranked #531 of 1,839 things to do in London

If you are in Paddington and have time the new Waterside development is definitely worth a look. The 150 year old canal is combined with modern offices, apartments and restaurants. You can walk as far as Edgware Road in the East and then along to Little Venice heading North. There are interesting bridges and a small park at the Little Venice basin. If you are adventurous and have time you can walk along the canal to London Zoo and Camden Market.

During a previous stay in Paddington, we had thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely walk around the Paddington Waterside.
Our most recent stay in London saw us again being accommodated in the same Paddington hotel. Late one afternoon, with a little bit of time on our hands we decided to have another look at the waterside area.
Unfortunately, there is currently a major construction project underway in the Paddington basin area. Consequently, there in not much to be seen here other than a major construction site.
Quite disappointing!

Exit the terminus from behind the high number platforms almost immediately into this area apparently redeveloped a decade or so ago. Some bits might just be a little crass and kitsch but by and large this is a not so small haven which provides a quietish zone away from traffic and trains with some through canal movement, many residential barges and some fairly hospitable shops and at least one cafe built into a boat. If you have a little time to kill before a train or business or need some recovery time before venturing back out into Paddington or Marylebone then this isn't such a bad spot.

Slight pity they don't do a little more to keep the water surface clear of weed, algae and rubbish.

It was a new experience for us to visit the Paddington area. The development that has been done along the canal makes for a very nice area to wander looking at canal boats & stopping for a bite to eat or something to drink and to people watch.

A lovely little café set within a boat with both inside and outside seating along the river. A variety of hot and cold drinks and snacks, sandwiches and cakes available including some gluten and dairy free. A short walk away from Paddington station.
