“Great location, small rooms”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

The New Linden is in a good location, close to the tube with plenty of shops and pubs in close proximity. The rooms were kept clean and the linen of good quality and changed regulary. The rooms however, are really small and the the central heating too hot. A plus is that you could open the windows in let in some fresh air.
The front of house are really helpful and the breakfasts, continental, offer plenty of variety.
Try not to get a basement room as we were not able to get phone reception or use the laptop but had to go up to the lounge.
Overall, a good place to stay for a couple or single traveller.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms.

I stayed at the New Linden for one night just before Xmas. I was given a deluxe suite and my daughters were in a standard room. The hotel has been fully renovated recently and on the 1st floor the room still smelt of paint but this was very quickly dispersed by opening the huge sash windows (that opened onto a balcony). The dlx room was bigger than the standard room and had a small desk area and a four poster bed. The furnishings were very plush in both rooms and the beds were comfortable and so were the pillows. The bathroom had a shower in the bath but it was exceptionally clean and no mouldy smells! There was tea/coffee making facilities and free wifi in the rooms. Breakfast (continental) was excellent with fresh fruit salads, choice of cereals/muesli cold meats and cheeses and plenty of fresh rolls/croissants/bread and tea/coffee/juices. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and the following day we left our bags in a locked secure room until we returned. There are plenty of restaurants very close by and Nottingham Hill tube station is a 5 minute walk away so it is very well located but quiet. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel (but the rooms will not take three people).

Our flight was delayed causing us to miss our first night at this hotel. Although we called in advance and let them know and alerted hotels.com (our booking agent), the hotel contended since they gave us our key when we arrived the next morning that counted as an overnight stay and we should be fully charged.

Aside from all that, the hotel was somewhat cramped - our room was very tight with two adults. It was impossible to take a shower without getting water all over the floor - no curtain or door for it. The rooms are quite basic, but clean. If you're going for a budget trip and can get a deal here, this hotel is fine, but if you're looking for a fancy comfortable night in London, this probably isn't where you should look.

Sadly we never made it to the hotel because of a illness in the family and had to cancel the room with 48 hours notice. The hotel charged us full rate for the room and were not willing to negoitiate or even consider any form of credit voucher or reduced cancellation charge. Disappointing particuarly as the large hotel chain nearby which was only slightly more expensive and which we had rejected in preference to booking this one let customers cancel up to 4pm on day of arrival with no charge. Very disappointed with the customer service and lack of consideration. I appreciate they are a business but if the competion can do it, I know where I will spend my money in future.
