“Good value, friendly service, great location...what more could you want?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2011

My boyfriend and I just returned from a Christmas trip to Europe. Coming from Canada, the most affordable place to fly into is London although London is a place we really wanted to visit.

Through a lot of research on Trip Advisor, we decided to book the Falcon Hotel. I knew our room would be small but clean and that the stairs would be steep and a delicious warm breakfast would be included. The hotel was exactly what we expected-clean, comfortable, friendly service.

The location and value of this hotel could not be beat. We booked online and had no trouble with our reservations at the beginning and end of our trip. I loved the neighbourhood and especially the food and atmosphere at Victoria's Pub a few minute walk down when you turn left on the main street. The food was incredibly delicious and the staff we fun. We spent a few nights at the pub after long days of sight-seeing. If you go, get the sticky toffee pudding. It takes about a half an hour to come to your table but it is so worth it.

There are a number of other pubs and restaurants right around the hotel. This hotel is located in a square with a lot of other similarly styled hotels but the area doesn't feel overly touristy. We could easily walk to Paddington Station to catch the underground or over to Hyde Park where there was a fun Christmas fair.

If you book this hotel, make sure you understand that this isn't a big, North American style hotel and get excited that it is quaint, set in a charming square and in a great older building...the kind we don't have in North America. Be prepared for a small bathroom with everything you will need and a room with a comfortable bed, great new tv, in room kettle with coffee or tea(my favorite) and a desk and wardrobe to hang your clothes. We stayed in room 14 and 19. Both were similarly appointed. One had a rear view and one had a front view. I loved the front view as we could look out to the square and see all the Christmas lights.

I absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay again. Be realistic in your expectations, enjoy the breakfast and know that if you forget your toothbrush or any other essential, these things are available to buy by reception-although there are few small grocery/corner stores right across the street. There is also a computer for your use in the lobby area. Total value for money. Don't hesitate to book here. I hope you have a great time in London! Safe travels.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front side have a great view of the square and the higher you go, the better the view...

My first hotel in Paddington was scruffy and some of the staff very unfriendly. Falcon Hotel beat their rates, provided a better breakfast and better rooms. TVs were good with a remote control collected from Reception involving payment of a deposit - some guests forget to leave them for others. I got a better room since mine was being painted. All the hotel was well maintained, well presented and constantly being improved.
Staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly and made me feel welcome.
The location is wonderful for accessing Paddington Station or the Underground. There were plenty of restaurants and useful sorts of shops for travellers nearby.

Just returned from my second stay at the excellent Falcon Hotel in London. Anyone that leaves negative ratings for this place must have little or no travel experience - at least for London. NO, it doesn't have an elevator and you have to be in good shape to get to the 4th floor rooms (learn to pack light!). NO, it doesn't have room service or a 24 hour restaurant. What it offers is a clean, comfortable spot to sleep in a great location in London for a super budget price.

The staff is always very friendly and helpful and they have a REAL breakfast for you. Some rooms may be small, but that is how it is in London! I've had rooms elsewhere where you could barely fit next to the bed - the Falcon is quite spacious by comparison.

It is on a pretty square 2 minute's walk from Paddington station trains and Underground, with dozens of eateries, pubs, and shops within a couple of blocks, as well access to many major bus lines. There is very fast wi-fi and a big-screen satellite TV. What more do you want? If you want a fancy lounge and bar and restaurant and all the amenities you can easily find them at other hotels just down the street - for 4x the price.

Thanks again Falcon for a very nice visit - see you again next year.

Room Tip: I have stayed in room 8 - very large with a big window overlooking the square. Has sink and shower...

Arrived to be greeted by a very friendly receptionist who seemed more interested in ensuring her son recieved money than the guest at hand! When i got to my room on the fourth floor (and NO LIFT!) i was shocked to see that an "ensuite room" and i use that term loosely was TINY! The toilet was tiny not enough room to sit on the toilet and turn to get the toilet paper and the shower involved having to wash your bottom half seperately while hanging out of the shower! My telephone didnt work, there was graffitti on the wall, the net curtain had seen better days it was torn and stained and was not informed on check in that i would have to pay twenty pounds for a remote control! After a quiet nights sleep at least, i discovered that the "full" english breakfast was two fried eggs, one tinned tomato, a table spoon of beans and one rasher of extremely over cooked bacon.Toast was cold and tea was like dishwater! But paying £55.00 per night i should expect nothing less! Will not be staying here again!

Room Tip: Dont bother!

We have mixed feeling about this review. It’s amusing in that the guest expected to receive money on check-in! But it is also disappointing to hear the points the guest raised. We remember this lady from Wales: We are:
1. Disappointed that the guest decided to eves-drop and report on a receptionist who happened to be on the phone when she walked in and who was trying to help his young son stranded 170 miles away with no money. The lady had to wait one minute – we are sorry about that.
2. Disappointed that when she booked a room we told her she was taking our LAST room and its on top floor and we have no lift. She insisted on taking the room because she thought she was fit and the room was cheap.
3. Disappointed that she makes comments after the event. (a) The phone did work but it was barred from calling outside. All she had to do is to provide cc details for us to open the line (b) that she mentions only what was on th eplate for English breakfast and not the eat as much as she likes from the buffet
4. Disappointed that just before the lady had arrived, we had a young teenager staying in the room (parents in another room). He had caught the net in the window and it tore. He had written a sentence (“I love xxxxxx”) on the wall next to the bed. It was in normal handwriting and the size you write on paper. It was NOT a “graffitti” as the guest declares. Anyway, just after her departure the net curtains were changed and the whole room was redecorated.
5. As to other points, please may we suggest Hilton or another 5 star hotel where you receive the same room for £255!

All that said, the guest was right because that’s our moto and we apologize for how the guest felt but we remain the best value hotel in the whole of London and comments from so many other reviews here are the proof.

We paid £79 per night for the room which was so convenient to Paddington Station. OK, it's not the Ritz but if you want that kind of luxury you need to pay a great deal more for it!! As others have said the room was clean, (perhaps a little shabby!). The bathroom was the smallest I've ever encountered - but the water was hot and everything clean. When we arrived our allocated room had a leak in the radiator so we were given a triple room higher up the building, overlooking the small park area. Nice view but it does get noisy at night so if, like us, you like to sleep with the window open then just bear it in mind and perhaps ask for a quieter room with a rear outlook? Bed was comfy staff were friendly. Breakfast very good. The stairs are quite narrow and steep and it was a big of a drag when we returned from a long day out in London so again, you might want to ask for a lower room if you have any mobility probs. All in all, you really couldn't fault the position of this hotel - literally 2 mins walk from Paddington Station and a no. 7 bus takes you right along Oxford Street into the heart of things or a lovely walk across Hyde Park takes you to the museums and Albert Hall. If you're looking for excellent value, a clean comfy bed, incredible position and a smashing brekkie then look no further. If you want luxury then you'll need to look elsewhere but be warned - it will cost you!!!

Room Tip: Rear facing rooms are quieter. If you don't like climbing stairs ask for a lower room.
