A last minute booking for 2 double luxury rooms (although they only have luxury and deluxe other than the suites). Both rooms on the 3rd floor overlooking Mathew Street with single glazed windows and we knew we were in for a noisy Saturday night. Our room, 303 developed a dripping air con unit in the ceiling but a call to reception and we were offered a twin room on the same floor without delay. Bliss, the room didn't have a view, (but that didn't bother us) looking out onto another part of the hotel but it was double glazed and we had a very peaceful nights sleep. The huge shower heads are there for style value rather than function but the rooms were spotless and well presented. The lifts are small and slow but the size is due to them being fitted inside the circular stair well of the original building.

All the staff were courteous, friendly and cheerful and the "door managers" keep out the odd stray drunk or ner-do-well! The BarFour prices were extortionate. £8.40 for a single bacardi and coke. We didn't try the breakfast, at nearly £15 each, we thought that a bit much for bacon and eggs etc.

The hotel has been well renovated in a boutique style, with quality fittings and furniture. An expensive place to stay unless you get a bargain deal, but you get what you pay for and we thouroughly enjoyed our visit.

I'm so tired my mind is on the blink. Could have been written about this hotel. Your mind would have to be on the blink to want to stay at this dirty, noisy and overpriced joke. Our stay here was my Christmas Present from my wife and I couldn't have been more disappointed. The room looked great but the walls were filthy enough enough to write on with your fingers. Check next to the bed in Room 315. As for the noise it was unbelievable. As there is no attempt at sound proofing it was like the street life below was in our room fights and all. My complaint was responded to with a stock email using the wrong customers name and we were offered by way of compensation a free breakfast should we want to stay there again. The breakfast by the way was like something British Rail would have conjured up circa 1973. Shocking really at £200 a night and its not as if the cafe was catering for a lot of guests.

Room Tip: Best advice would be to choose a room at a different Hotel. There must be something fabulous in Live...

I am happy to report that this hotel is the best I've stayed in in Liverpool. Really clean and immaculate room, professional reception staff and good facilities. The location is superb, 30secs from the cavern, 1min from Liverpool One, 5mins from the bus station.

The one complaint I would have is that the water from the shower could have been piping hot, as it was we survived the lukewarm water and enjoyed a remarkable stay.

PS The breakfast probably isn't worth getting.

Recently stayed at the hard days night over a weekend the location in the centre of the city is excellent. Ideal for all the attractions and night-life Matthew st (eg the cavern).the ambience of the hotel is great with fantastic artwork and Beatles memorabilia. At first sight the room we had was of a good standard but certain things let it down several windows of which none were double glazed so firstly this made the room draughty and the close proximity to Liverpool excellent night-life meant that if you wanted to go to sleep prior to 3am you would struggle only to awoken at 6am by bottle bins being emptied.Small things like no electric sockets next to the dresser or the one full length mirror that was also poorly lit, toilet roll holder hanging off the wall, ironing board that was wobbly and only useful if you were an umpa lumpa. The staff could do with some people skills training, for example breakfast greeted on entrance asked room number and what hot beverage we would like no problem apart from it took 15 minues and a further three requests for the drinks to arrive self service buffet no cutlery plates not that clean fruit juice not refilled.Bar staff surly and off hand. These little things took the shine off what was a great weekend but could of been so much better with a bit of thought and training.

we ate at blakes restaurant recently and i was not impressed at all with the service or menu. The food we ordered - steaks where very tasty and well presented however there was not enough options on the menu to inspire me. The service was terrible. No one came over to check if food was okay which you would expect from such a high standard restaurant. I had to go off to find staff to clear table - 20 mins after we'd finished eating. There was only 1 guy on the restauant floor who was on the telephone at the door majority of the time. No other staff around. Had to actually put our coats on and walk to the door before someone came over with bill. There was only 2 other tables occupied so the place was not busy at all. Where do the staff go? to leave a restaurant floor with no staff is poor! 10% service charge added to bill.... which i paid, however shoudn't that be up to the customer? (if you where happy with the service or not)
