Got an email the day of arrival stating the room had been cancelled on NYE due to card declining baring in mind it said we could pay when we arrived (as we have ALWAYS done). Ring up to sort this mess out and the woman on reception tells us if the woman they have ringing back doesn't want the room we can have it again OUR ROOM.....so we waited NO PHONE CALL BACK only for us to ring back and be told you can have it if you pay now over the phone so we declined. Needless to say after reading the reviews I am glad we didn't get to stay. DONT RECOMMEND use elsewhere...we found another last minute hotel to stay in thank god!

Dear NatalieJCollett - thank you for your recent posting with regards to your booking at 62 Castle St for NYE. Firstly you failed to mention that you were sent an email 2 days prior to your arrival informing you that the card you had guaranteed the booking with was to be charged on the day of your arrival, however if you wished us to charge another card please contact us. There was no response from you. With NYE being fully booked and as we had a waiting list we could not afford as a business to have guests book rooms and guarantee these with cards that decline. As you had not responded to the prestay email and then your card had declined, we could not take the chance that you would turn up at the hotel and pay for your room, therefore you were contacted again, it was this email you choose to respond to. I am very sorry that you didn't get to stay with us here at 62 Castle St, however as a small hotel with a wait list for premium, nights it is paramount that we fill our rooms with paying guests so we can ultimately pay our own bills.

Stayed for 2 nights, great location and lovely large room. Separate seating area and table and chairs. Handy for San Carlos opposite where we were meeting friends and near shops and dock area etc.

Room was freezing as only radiator was covered by large mirror. We managed to move it to one side to let some heat out! Coffee/ tea making in dark corner with no light and not properly replenished. Bought my own milk following day. 3 tiny bottles of shampoo/ shower gel, bit stingy.
Couldn't fill kettle at sink as tap too low.
Staff barely spoke or acknowledged us each time we came through reception, when checked out just good bye, no asking if we had enjoyed stay etc. Don't expect staff to be fawning over us but some interaction would be good .wi fi very poor in room
With few changes thus could be really nice hotel

Dear Michele1717, thank you for sharing your experience of staying with us here at 62 Castle St and I apologise for the shortcomings that you encountered. I cannot understand why the room was cold as there had been no problems with the heating system, but again I can only apologise. I have spoken with Housekeeping with regards to the replenishing of the guest supplies in the room so that it will not happen again, had we known at reception we could have brought extra items to you room for you. With regard to the sink - unfortunately this is a recurring complaint and frustrating to us here as it is a design issue that is not easily rectified. I hope this does not stop you from returning to 62 Castle St at some point in the future.

We stayed at this hotel for one night on Dec 11th. We were given a choice of rooms and opted for the top floor. Fantastic room, very spacious and comfortable. The only strange thing was the height of the tap in the sink!! You could hardly get your toothbrush under it. Otherwise we had a fab stay, friendly staff and spotless clean. We would deffo visit again.

Dear Lorraine M, thank you for taking the time to write your review and I can only apologise for the shortcomings of the décor of the guest room you stayed in, we are a little restricted with our high occupancy levels and access to the room for maintenance and TLC, but please come back again soon and see how the work has progressed.

Reviewed 15 December 2014

I have stayed in the hotel a number of times over the past couple of years reviewing it regularly and unfortunately my reviews have been getting progressively worse each time. Stayed here with my wife on Saturday 13th December as we had a night our arranged in Liverpool with colleagues. Firstly the rate had been hiked up considerably to £145 for a room only rate which was excessive and much higher than on previous visits. You could argue the time of year and probably one of the busiest Saturday nights on the calendar leading up to Xmas but this was still profiteering at its most basic. Greeted at the desk by a grumpy receptionist who couldn't crack a smile we were given room 301 on the 3rd floor. Disappointingly the bedrooms have not changed since my last visit over a year ago and are now showing signs of age and are run down. Really could be doing with a lick of paint and some upgrading to the décor. The lighting remains very poor in the rooms and the bathrooms have sink taps so low to the basin you struggle to put your hands underneath. Despite giving us Wifi log in details, the Wifi did not work! This `hotel' now has absolutely no access to a dining room since the place next door closed so no dinner or breakfast onsite is available. Returning in the early hours of the morning after our dinner the place was deserted with no night porter visible. Sleep was very difficult as the room was too hot and the outside noise with drunken revellers carried up very clearly as the windows were not double glazed. The following morning as we left our room we had to negotiate round the myriad of blue laundry bags littering the corridor floors and even the one and only lift (which is small anyway) had yet more laundry bags in it. On passing my observations onto the receptionist when checking out there didn't appear to be much interest in my views and short of a `shrug of the shoulders' and a "it is what it is" type of response I guess that sums up the whole experience. I will not be returning again to this hotel, there are plentiful choices in the area and all reflecting far better value for money. A great shame as the location is great.

Room Tip: Take your earplugs to protect against outside noise.

Dear Tom K, thank you for taking the time to share your experience here with us at 62 Castle St. Firstly I would like to just add that I was actually on reception the morning of your check out and I had an extensive conversation with both you and your wife with regard to both the wifi (of which I wrote all details down so I could pass to our IT department) and also our refurbishment programme and the difficulties we have had accessing the room as we have such high occupancy, so a little bit of in accuracy there. Also the room number you have given is incorrect. The rate certainly has changed since your stay with us in 2011 and as it was a Liverpool FC home match weekend you would have noticed that every hotel in the city increases their rates due to the volumes of people that come to the City, the windows were also not double glazed in 2011.
