Owner description: RIBA Liverpool City Tours tell the story of Liverpool past, present and future through the buildings and public spaces that make up the city. RIBA guides will lead a walking tour that puts the spotlight on key buildings and spaces that form part of the contemporary city landscape, its characters, its commerce and its culture. We offer four tours: 'Gateway to the World' (Sundays and Wednesdays), 'City of Culture, Learning & Faiths' (Saturdays), 'Sculpture, Culture & Civic Pride' (first and third Thursdays of the month) and 'The Ropewalks: Growth, Decline & Regeneration' (second and fourth Fridays of the month).

We had a great tour around the business district, seeing and learning interesting facts about many important buildings that I usually pass without a second look. I hope they start doing more areas of Liverpool, I'd be really interested to tour some of the other areas, the Georgian quarter, for example. Friendly and informative guides, Fantastic!

My partner and I booked ourselves onto one of the Royal Institute of British Architect's walking tours in Liverpool. It seems they do these in Chicago, and they are now introducing them in the UK.

We booked online, but had to check into the local tourist office to check the exact starting point, which was rather vague! We were met by two guides, Pat & Terry, who although not architects themselves were locals who had an interest in the history of Liverpool, and whom (I think) had been trained up by RIBA.

The tour is supposed to last around an hour and half, although we overran slightly. The walking was very easy, and told the story of Liverpool through individual buildings, starting off in the old dock area, moving through the old financial area and into the newly developed centre.

This was a really super way to get a snapshot of the history of Liverpool. We saw so much more than if we had taken a bus tour. Pat & Terry were informative and entertaining, and showed an obvious passion for their city. Thoroughly reccomended!
