We dined at the Lamplighter's restaurant on our second night in the Lake District on the recommendation of our B & B's owner. He wasn't wrong. Although the service wasn't spot on, the food was. I had traditional fish and chips and my wife had the grilled sea bream. The entrees were accompanied by a wonderful vegetable medley, and I must complement the chef on the extraordinarily fresh fish. In our numerous trips to Britain, I can't say that we've had fish as fresh and as well prepared as the Lamplighter's dining room. We only wish the dining room had been air conditioned inasmuch as it is very warm in July, and the open window allowed flies to share our meals. Nevertheless, on the food alone, we'd return, in summer or winter.
