We stayed in 26 Littledale - absolutely superb! Staff can't do enough for you. Any problems and someone is there straight away to sort it out. Beautiful view over Keswick and Derwent Water from the enormous lounge / dining room / kitchen and balcony - it even got warm enough to sit out in the sunshine! Accommodation is first class - beds are so comfortable. Very well kitted out. Only slight issue was the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor but only a minor issue. Fabulous pool and Jacuzzi. Didn't use sauna or steam room but sure they were excellent. Massages were also lovely - so relaxing. Ideal location for driving / walking / eating out - Horse and Farrier at Threlkeld, Pheasant Inn and Woodstone Pizza and Flame Grill, Keswick and Cocklakes Farm Shop off the A66 between Scales and Penrith.

With a fantastic position high above Keswick and Derwent Water on the lower slopes of Skiddaw mastiff, with walks right from the door this is a little slice of heaven! You couldn't think of a more spectacular location and with all the mod cons too its a revelation. Beautiful open-plan 'upside down living' (living quarters on the top floor and bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor) make for a very comfortable stay, with oodles of space and everything you could need while away. Sonos sound system running through the entire house and lavishly fitted bathrooms resplendent with power showers and a steam room all add that little extra. We enjoyed a dip in the pool in the main part of the hotel most days, and use of the hot tub and saunas - the kids loved it. A cafe/ restaurant on hand too but we ate out or in most of the time, but good to know it was there along with the Spa. Beautiful grounds surround you and if you are lucky you will be watching Red Squirrels playing before your very eyes infront of your lodge! The gardens are like a mini Alhambra with beautiful luxuriant planting and water courses running throughout the property. Views of Keswick and Derwent Water and all the way to Scafell on a clear day can be enjoyed so do pack binoculars and camera with telephoto. The balcony side sadly isn't glass, so the view cannot be seen from your lounge sofa but it can be seen from the kitchen sofa on a slightly higher level. Obviously sitting on the balcony sipping wine and looking out at any time is a wonderful experience - even in the rain! We had building work going on next door the whole of our stay so our experience was marred a bit as a consequence, but they were very discreet and were careful not to make too much noise. We did receive a discount off the price on leaving because of the work but only after mentioning it to staff. I would imaging the work will be done now its March 2016 as I write. We still had a lovely stay at Underscar and if you have the cash its well worth it and a fabulous spot for a holiday. We stayed in October and it was still quite mild but a bit wet as always (but you are used to that in the Lakes). My only other gripe would be the long walk to your lodge from the car park carrying all your luggage, it takes a few trips if like us you have 2 kids and lots of food and gear and if you are in one of the lower blocks! Lots of steps so not for the mobility challenged (our daughter is disabled but she managed ok with a bit of help holding her hand, but you would need to choose your spot carefully if you didn't want the walk as there is accommodation that backs on to car park.

Room Tip: Higher rooms up the hill have better views possibly and less of a walk to your room.
