You just can't fault the Portland House.
Rod and Denise are fantastic hosts, everywhere is spotless and the breakfasts are made to order. We wouldn't stay anywhere else and can't wait to go back in 2012.

Room Tip: We have stayed in two different rooms and both were excellent.

We stayed at Portland in September 2011. Good location in the center of Keswick, lovely hosts, very helpful, with a wonderful sense of humor. Denise and Rod prepare huge and tasty breakfast every morning. Quite a lot to choose from. The rooms are pretty and very clean, tastefully decorated. The breakfast room is lovely. Keswick is gorgeous and so is the Lake District (if you have never traveled there). Thank you, Denise, Rod – we have very fond memories from your place – Alexandra will never forget the huge serve of scrambled eggs she got the first morning!

I decided to drag the good lady up Scafell Pike, so I chose Portland House having searched for a B&B nearby last minute. We stayed for 2 nights in October 2011. The room was the smallest double but for us it was just right (even with my overly large bag!), the homemade shortbread was a tasty treat too. Rod and Denise were lovely, they even provided a flask of tea for our day of walking which was a thoughtful gesture and came in very handy on the windswept peak. Breakfast was cooked to order and one of the best we've had. We find it's particularly difficult to find a quality sausage (!) at a lot of B&B's, however, these were locally made and very tasty. We do like a good sausage...
Parking was a little tricky as it was busy but we managed to find a spot after driving round the block a couple of times.
An excellent B&B, the place to stay in Keswick.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 3, the bed was very comfortable, the only reason we went for a 'very good'...

My family & I (4 adults) stayed here for 2 nights and we all agreed that this was definitely the best b&b of our whole UK trip (we stayed at 7 B&Bs in total). This was largely due to the warm & friendly hosts Rod & Denise who were very welcoming & extremely helpful in giving directions & suggestions on where to go. Rod is a natural joker & they are both genuine, wonderful people. The rooms were also very comfortable & pleasant. The location is great as it is only a 10 minute stroll to the town centre and about 15-20 minutes walk to the lovely Derwentwater Lake. Breakfast was delicious. We wish we had stayed longer in Keswick but unfortunately we didn't have enough time. Keswick was definitely the best destination out of our whole trip as well due to the scenic lakes and quaint town. This is a highly recommended B&B and I cannot find any faults with it.

Room Tip: The room on the ground floor (double room) has a very large bathroom.

We stayed at Portland House for three nights. Having never stayed in Keswick before it certainly exceeded our expectations. The location and parking is a plus and Rod and Denise are the perfect hosts. We couldn't fault the accommodation facilities and cleanliness are second to none. The breakfasts are amazing, cooked perfectly and lots of choice. Rod was really helpful and gave us loads of information on great walks around Keswick. "thanks Rod we did go to Buttermere on Sunday and it was unbelievably breathtaking." Would highly recommend this B&B and we will definitely be coming back! Thanks Rod & Denise for a lovely break, Phil & Diane.

Room Tip: Room 5 has plenty of space
