Still in outdoor gear after a day up the crag, had a nice dinner in the bar. Service was friendly from our server though one of the other waiters was a bit offhand.
Would go again

We stayed for 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast. Had a perfect stay. We went for a walking break.
Lots of safe parking at the front of the hotel and overflow at the rear.
Great views all round of either the fells or lake derwent 200m away.
Gardens all round the hotel are well kept.
I have trouble finding any fault at all , the staff were all hard working and very friendly and well trained. Our meals were great , I looked forward to them every evening.
Very wide and extensive choice at Breakfast. Everything from buffet choice of cereals , cheese and meats , fruit , yogurt, to cooked porridge, full cooked English. Pot of tea along with pot of hot water and rack of toast with jams and marmalade, every thing you could wish for , they had it fully covered.
Very nice dining room with exceptional warm friendly fully trained competent staff. We felt well looked after and cared for.
The hotel is perfect for walkers with lots of walks possible starting from the hotel.
We are not serious walkers but are capable of the lower peaks and the flat 10.5 mike round derwent water walk.
The setting is magical , all of borrowdale is a cyclist, walking and sight seeing centre. The whole area is a canvas of beauty , surrendering varied magnificent views with every turn.
High fells with quiet flat sheep strewn valley bottoms with crystal clear streams and rivers , tiny jumped bridges and cottages.
We will be back.
One thing to note ... the Mobile phone signal is zero in the valley and spasmodic up the fells. The hotel has charged phone lines or you can make use of the hotels good WiFi which worked well in our second floor room. Oh ! , the hotel doesn’t have a lift but we were offered help with luggage on arrival. The staircase is big and wide so we were ok.
Our room was spacious and fully fitted out. Plenty of lighting drawers and wardrobe hanging. Bathroom was lovely with heated towel rail and good shower over the bath.
All room radiators were adjustable and the room was nice and warm.
It’s a great hotel, spotlessly clean. You’ll enjoy it.

We made a return visit to the hotel after several years and spent a very enjoyable three day break. We took the disabled accommodation and can only describe it as perfect in design and comfort. The staff were helpful and friendly at all times. All the meals were excellent and you had a good. a range of choice and the dinner menu varied from day today. The bar also offered a good range of meals for lunch and in the evening for those who preferred a less formal atmosphere.
The other public rooms were comfortable and well serviced at all times.
The car parking was good for the size of the hotel.
I can recommend this hotel to any one seeking a break in beautiful country at a first class hotel
