We have just had another 1 week holiday in Brook House, with our children and grandchildren - it has turned into an annual event. This year was again simply perfect in every respect. The house, is extremely well equipped, with a splendid view across the small green to the stream. Alison (owner) is always so warm and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble for her - she is the perfect host! Cannot recommend highly enough - book with confidence.
We spent a week during the Easter Holiday's at Brook House 1 and it couldn't have been more perfect for our needs. As an extended family (4 Adults and 5 children (ages 2,2,3,4 and 12) the very well equipped property was child friendly and enabled us to share meal times as a family in the large kitchen. The children especially loved the location playing in the beck across the road and feeding the ducks each morning. Mrs Trafford (the owner) is a wonderful host providing local knowledge and helping us with any queries as well as providing the children with nets and plastic ducks to race down the stream (which they had great fun doing). Great location in a quiet area away from the crowds of tourists enabling easy access to explore nearby Keswick and the northern lakes. Would definitely stay again.
Brook House fulfilled all our requirements for a holiday home, with it's large, very well equipped kitchen, and cosy but roomy lounge with woodburner.. We greatly appreciated the free wood for this, and all the homely touches. We were staying as an extended family (8 of us) and found it a real home from home. Bassenthwaite village is a beautiful little place, tucked away amongst the fells. Keswick is not very far away, with it's various facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the Beatrix Potter Experience. Mrs Trafford's kindness and helpfulness were much appreciated.
Lovely cottage. Cosy and comfortable, yet spacious. Really enjoyed the woodburner, and free wood was a nice touch. The kitchen was well equipped and you could easily get ten people around the dining table in there. Great location, handy for Keswick and Cockermouth. Plenty to do in the area if the weather's not great, although we were lucky and the walking around there is fantastic. Literally from the doorstep, you could be up Skiddaw in a couple of hours, but if you don't do mountains there are some lovely walks close by. Saw red squirrels in the woods just up the hill opposite. Lots of maps and walks info provided at the cottage. Also a nice pub up the road with good food. The ducks were very sweet!
