“Ideal get away”
Reviewed 7 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Beautiful country cottage for a perfect get away with friends and family. All utilities you would require, including a very relaxing hot tub. Very clean and really comfortable beds! The fire place was a treat for the colder weather, on top of the every room with heating.

“Perfect short getaway”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Great cottage for a weekend away with friends. Amenities were exactly what we needed and more! The place was warm and cosy and the bedrooms were lovely and comfortable. The hot tub was a great touch too, made it feel like a real holiday even in the cold winter months!
It's also just down the road from an activity centre where we were able to go quad biking and see the gorgeous views over the hills! Would definitely recommend for any adventurous people wanting to visit the lakes.

Overall a fantastic place in a lovely area. The host offered great advice about the area and directions to everything we needed.

“Exactly the peace and quiet I needed”
Reviewed 29 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

I've had a fabulous time at the Holmescales cottage.
My first impression was that it was reeeeally quiet! Living in the city, it was amazing to get a good night sleep without hearing any cars, sirens, or in fact people.

The cottage was very clean, and well prepared for me before my arrival. The landlady gave me all the information I needed and I've also had her contact number in case I needed help; and she always responded very quickly. I've also been provided with a lot of very useful info about the cottage itself, driving directions (gps/google maps are actually showing slightly wrong place on the maps), and local stuff to do, which was very helpful for me to do stuff around. Basically, you won't be lost or bored!

The cottage kitchen is well equipped for cooking, had a few cupboard things in it already (despite me bringing my own stuff, like salt, sugar, condiments, etc). However, I'm not sure if it was just the stuff from the previous visitors, but it was nice to know that if ran out of sugar, there's a back up until i bought my own stuff! It also had a lot of cooking pots, things to eat out of and with, as well as electricals (microwave, dishwasher, kettle, etc).

The living room is an absolute dream - a little fireplace with a burner (things to burn and instructions are provided), a sofa and two comfy arm chairs to relax, a dining table, telly with DVD player (and a few nice family friendly DVD's to watch). It also had book shelves with some interesting books, nice boardgames, and just random things:)

The there is also a small loo downstairs and there's a bathroom with a toilet upstairs (a very lovely looking bath actually with a shower, and bath tub itself with a nice view on the back garden and the horse field).

There are two bedrooms, one is with the two beds, and a telly and a wardrobe, it's a bit quieter, because it overlooks the garden and horse field, and the other one is the main master bedroom (overlooks the front of the cottage, and another field). The main bedroom was very lovely, with a double bed, a bookshelf, two wardrobes, a nice window ledge on which you can sit and read and have nice views, and fancy looking dressing table. I was also very happy to find a good hair dryer because I forgot mine!

I also found the cottage quite cosy because on my arrival it was a bit chilly (it was the end of November after all!), but there is a thermostat (you'll be given instructions) and it's easy to turn up or down the temperature there.

I noticed there was also a washing machine and hoover, which I'm guessing would be useful for longer stays or pet owners. And outside there is a table for roughly 6 people, a chimenea and a fairly sized barbecue grill (I think you need coal for it, which I think is provided, but I didn't use it, so can't comment).

And of course, the hot tub!:) very well sized, with jets and lights settings. It's also situated on the side of the garden looking over the horse field, which is quite interesting and you get nice views. If you use it over the night time, the lights give quite a cool ambience and when it's starry, it becomes quite picturesque! there are a few instructions on safety and stuff which are in the porch and you'll be given them in your email anyway.
I was using it when it was quite cold weather, but because of the hot water (38-40C, no more, otherwise you'd boil!) it felt so nice and cosy:) I absolutely loved that hot tub and the night time views I had with it. The back of the garden is quite private (minus the horses that might or might not be watching you whilst grazing) so if you're shy walking around in your swim wear, I wouldn't worry, no one apart from the horses would see you anyway!

The info on the walks around the cottage and drives around (including to the closest pubs, hills, waterfall, supermarket, etc) are going to be provided on the information sheet, which is very useful to read, I went on a few walks that were recommended there, had a lot of fun and good food!:)

Mobile reception for calling and texting was not bad at all (I'm on the O2 network), but the mobile internet was quite bad which is expected because it is a rural area (it was a great rest from emails and social media anyway!). However, if you do need to check your emails or check your maps or plan your day, the cottage did have a wifi (you will be given the info on that in information sheet too). However, don't rely on doing too much with it, because it's only for basic use (so you won't be able to be streaming spotify, netflix or playing call of duty with your mates!), which was nice because I didn't wanna be disturbed by it all anyway!..

Also I'd recommend bringing a fairly good torch. I think there was a nice one or two in the cottage (I didn't use them, I brought my own 'search torch', you can get one of amazon or so). There are a couple of lights that you can turn on on the actual cottage building, but they don't light up the entire garden, in case you're scared of darkness :)

Also bring flip flops and a nice warm bathrobe for getting in and out of the hot tub, because it will be a bit chilly when you hop out of the warm cosy water of the hot tub into the cold! and you'll somehow need to walk from the cottage to the tub and back!

Overall, I loved it!!! definitely was one of the best holidays I've had to far! I reckon I'm coming back again!

AI.

“Perfect getaway! ”
Reviewed 2 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

4 adults and 2 children were in our group and this cottage is a hidden gem.
The location is stunning on a quiet country lane, walk out of the door and you are surrounded by beautiful views in all directions, with some lovely walks around the lanes.
Catherine has thought of everything and has put in some perfect finishing touches - a larder of small food items, games for the kids (which they loved) and even footwear to get to the hot tub and back!
The hot tub is out of this world and a perfect addition to this cottage. Nothing nicer than sitting in a secluded hot tub at night time and gazing at the beautiful sky and even managing to see some shooting stars!
This cozy little cottage is stunning and even with 6 of us it never felt cramped.
All the beds were wonderfully comfortable, including the pull out sofa bed in the living room. The log burner made it perfect for the evenings after getting out of the hot tub.

I cannot speak highly enough about this cottage and would not think twice about booking again. Catherine, the owner, is soooo helpful and lovely also.
