Although we haven't stayed at Crosthwaite House for many years For whatever reason I decide to look it up today to see if it was still in business We used to go Saturday bed breakfast and Sunday Lunch .In those Days the owner was Rudi and his wife who was the chef ,I believe she was Swiss .The food was delicious and there used to be Fudge and coffee in the hallway after Sunday Lunch which could be enjoyed in the lounge .Every where was spotless and quite and peaceful and looking on the web site it looks to remain the same . What brought me to look on the web page today was that we have a new grandson and his name is Rudi and it brought back memories of Rudi Dawson and Crothwaite house . No doubt we will try and come back one day .Thankyou

Room Tip: We always asked for the back room with a door which over looked the veg garden

Hello, many thanks for your review...that must be some kind of record for how long ag the visit was :) very kind of you to stop by and write down your thoughts for us. Sam and I took over the running of Crosthwaite House a few years ago, taking over from his parents Robin and Marnie. They remember you staying! Things have changed quite a lot since then, but we like to think we're keeping the standards high! Hopefully our guests will remember us for as long as you have! Best wishes to you all x

Sam and Tiree have one of the best B&B`s you could want to stay in. A lovely big room, and lots of home baked goodies to sample. After a long day`s walk sheer bliss. We had a super breakfast with alternatives for vegetarians.

Room Tip: We stayed in Westmorland room 5

This review is long overdue! We stayed at the beautiful Crosthwaite house last August for two nights with our 8 month old daughter. We booked reasonably last minute and found that Sam and Tiree couldn't do enough to accommodate our travel plans (arriving after 9pm at night). We also really liked the warm welcome given to our daughter having found a great number of B&B's and hotels do not take babies/children, we were very glad that Crosthwaite hotel did.

The entire hotel is beautifully though out with quirky decorations, perfect for any one who loves vintage style. The sitting room and breakfast room have beautiful views over the Lythe valley and we felt so at home sitting in both of the rooms.

The hotel is about 10 minutes away from the M6 motorway but feels like a world away. It was about 15 minutes to Windermere and 15 minutes to Kendal by car, but rather than stay in either of those busy and bustling touristy places, we felt like we had stayed in the "true" Lake District.

The rooms again were beautifully decorated and the entire hotel was spotlessly clean. Sam and Tiree were extremely helpful and kind and clearly work very hard to make sure their guests are well looked after and to make sure that their hotel stays at a high standard. Little extras such as the cake in the hallway which guests can help themselves to and the torches guests can take to make sure they get to and from the nearby pub safely all make the hotel stand out from the crowd.

The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, by far the nicest we have ever had at a B&B and such an extensive selection! We also ordered a packed lunch which are available with notice which was very nice and also very convenient.

For a long time I viewed B&Bs as "just a place to sleep", but Crosthwaite was so much more, we have stayed at a number of B&Bs and expensive hotels in the past and none of them have the charm or high standards of Crosthwaite. It is testament to how lovely the hotel is that I decided that was where I wanted to go for my 30th birthday....so we booked again and will be staying again in 2 weeks time....not only with my husband and daughter, I'm taking my parents along to to show them how lovely it is....we can't wait!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a lovely view of the valley. One of the rooms at the back had a doorway onto a little patio area.

This is a truly special B and B. You can tell a lot of hard work has gone into the running of the house.
It's perfect for those looking for a relax away from everything, to walkers looking for somewhere to stop for the night.
From the moment we arrived we were given a very cheerful and warm welcome from Sam.
We'd definitely stay again in the future. Great breakfasts and cakes for guests were a brilliant and delicious touch.

Really enjoyed our stay here.
Crosthwaite is a lovely, little village just outside the main tourist trail (but only a short drive away from great fell walks).
Crosthwaite House is beautiful, our room was great and impeccably clean. We loved the lounge (especially the lights and fire in an evening), mini cakes/nibbles in the hall were an extra treat.
Breakfast was really tasty.
(ps thanks for the extra sausage!!!)
