On a previous trip to Grasmere, we stopped into the Lancrigg for post-hike refreshments and decided we would have to stay here on our next trip—which we did! Rooms can be a bit quirky, but were very reasonably priced, and the location simply can’t be beat: there’s a stunning view over the Easedale valley, great trails leading straight from the gardens, and it’s all just a 10-minute walk to the heart of Grasmere. The breakfasts and lunches were also really delicious. The only reason I can’t give it five stars is that the place is simply understaffed—I don’t know if that’s because someone quit right before we showed up, or for some other reason, but there really weren’t enough people to handle the weekend crowd. (It took almost two hours to get our food at dinner, and it was difficult to flag down anyone to help you with getting a key or anything.) I am hoping that as the new management hits their stride, the success of the hotel will let them hire some more people, because then it really will be perfect! And despite a few hiccups, we had such a nice time here that we would happily stay here again regardless. Recommended!

Just had a great stay at Lancrigg. Couple of hiccups to start but think there had been a few changes recently. Staff managed to deal with it and I think the weather helped frame this perfect break away. Beautiful property in great location for walks. 10 mins into village stunning views along the way. Food was lovely. Room was ok..but we had a dog so it suited us fine. Staff super friendly. New lady (her 2nd day) & Spanish waiter especially.
Well done all for keeping it going when things felt a bit wobbly

Thought this hotel was quite pricey for what it was, quite quirky downstairs but our hotel room was quite disappointing! Needs a spruce up in my opinion, no light bulb in the main light, bathroom not the cleanest. A good walk into Grasmere which is fine, felt quite sorry for the two staff that we saw the time we were there, especially the guy who was extremely helpful at all times!

Hello Samantha,

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. We were not aware that your room was missing a lightbulb, but thanks for letting us know. It has now been replaced.

We were only intending to have a drink after a day of walking of Helm Crag and surrounding hills. The location of the hotel is stunning and the bar welcoming and in the end we stayed on and had an evening meal as well, and were glad that we did. Lovely food at very reasonable prices and as a mixed party of vegetarians and meat eaters there was choice enough for us all.
would thoroughly recommend the hotel

What an enchanted property!

We stayed for two nights in late March and loved everything about this place. The management was very communicative with us over email during the booking and arrival process. We had difficulty finding the place at night with online maps but luckily a friendly local helped guide us to the property -- a great intro to the Ambleside/Grasmere area. If you're arriving at night, make sure to have a good map on you, as the property is far away from other hotels and inns.

We were given the ground-floor Franklin room which had a four poster bed, deep bathtub with Jacuzzi jets, crisp linens, huge windows, large terry towels, and a shower with AMAZING water pressure. Fast Wifi. We were also visited by a curious and friendly cat at night, if you're lucky perhaps she/he will visit you too. :)

The full English breakfast offered was delicious and managed to be rich without too much grease or salt. Perfect hiking fuel. The cook, serving staff, reception, and management we were all present and attentive.

The current prices on TripAdvisor are an amazing deal for such a luxurious place. I look forward to booking at the Lancrigg again and getting the chance to explore the property and trails further.
