My wife and I visited for a long weekend just after Easter. The hotel was excellent, with a clean modern interior, lovely light and airy dining room overlooking the manicured gardens, and of course the rather wonderful Spa! After a soggy days' walking (the weather was somewhat mixed) it was lovely to soothe away the aches in the hot salty pool and with careful positioning it was possible to place your feet directly over the jets. Then into the sauna for 10 minutes and another wallow in the pool, finished off with a monsoon shower and a lie down. Marvellous way to relax.
The room was great, overlooking the river at the back. The only niggle was that there was a problem with the hot water supply to the basin, but rather than move rooms the management gave us a reduction.
The only meals we ate at the hotel was breakfast, which was generous and good quality, and really set us up for a day out. All in all, a great experience, and if we return to Grasmere we would definitely choose Rothay Garden Hotel again.

Room Tip: 1st floor rear was very quiet - apart from the running river, which lulled us to sleep!

I thought the hotel was very clean and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms were bright and airy, although I felt that the decor was a little bit garish, especially the bar. The food was fantastic I thought and for a 3 course meal with coffee not too expensive. Great breakfast with a good variety.

The location doesn’t get better than the Rothay, at the heart of the lakes being overlooked by ‘The Lion and The Lamb’, absolutely stunning. Recommend it.

We were looking for somewhere to pamper ourselves on a walking weekend away......and we found this little bit of luxury in Grasmere. Wonderfully located, with lovely gardens, daffodils, the Rothay and mountains to look out on. The hotel was really well kept with all our rooms exceeding expectations - stunning views, peaceful and very comfortable and spacious sleeping accomodation. The spa provided a really relaxing end to an Activus Outdoor walk around the Fairfield Horseshoe and the evening meal on Saturday was just what we needed. It was lovely to see a locally tailored menu, with the Cumbrian beef being highly recommended. The staff were genuinely there to help and it just made the stay all the more memorable. We shall all certainly be going back......and not a down word about the flooding, just a determination to make the upcoming season a good one!!!!

Fantastic place to stay, lovely location and friendly staff. Recommend a Riverside Suite. A modern decor hotel with spa facilities for guests, so pack your swimwear. Will definitely be returning for another visit.

Room Tip: Riverside Suite - nice views and with sliding French Windows, relax to the sound of the flowing river, bliss with a chilled bottle of wine.

We stayed in Helm Crag, one of the spacious loft suites. Through the whole stay me and my partner felt extremely pampered and well attended to, with free access to the delightful spa after a long walk and a 4 course dinner to look forward to in the evening. We both thought that the hotel was gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The reason that i wouldn't give it 5 stars however, were due to just a few minor issues that meant it wasn't perfect. These were that the room had a very odd stale smell, to the point of our clothes smelling like it when we got home; not very pleasant. Also, i was delighted to discover a television over the huge bath, but it only had one channel - BBC1, which had football on most of the time. When you searched for more channels it just didn't work - i'm not sure it's worth having a television in there with only one channel. And finally, although we received great service from all of the waiting staff, our food on both nights was a bit of a disappointment, particularly the fillet steak which 'comes medium rare' but was very overcooked and tough. The '4th course' was also just a small amount of the soup of the day before the starters. I'm not sure that we would pay the original prices for this hotel, but as a package deal it was fabulous.
