Enjoyed our meal here during a recent two night stay in Grasmere. After consulting TripAdvisor we found that eating in Grasmere is a bit limited in comparison to say Ambleside. We found Lewis’s close to our hotel, having walked past it when it was closed on Monday evening. The weather was lovely so we booked a table in the morning for 7:30pm that evening. Good job we did as the restaurant was full. Service was excellent, however three dishes on the menu were not available (Sea Bass, Salmon and a Chicken dish), hence only 4 stars. I chose the Lamb and my wife had a replacement Chicken dish, both were good sized portions served with local vegetables and perfectly cooked. Sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake rounded off an excellent meal. Good value for money, although we did not have wine. Highly recommended.

Thanks for your kind review, although disappointed with a four star as we always strive for excellence!!! Anyway we're glad you enjoyed your evening st lewis.
We do get fairly busy most nights throughout the season so it is advisable to book.
We do apologise for the couple of missing items on the menu, however one of the dishes was off the special menu (sea bass) and the chicken dish was on the special as we are currently replacing the original dish with that one, our fish is delivered fresh daily so better to run out on a busier night and retain the freshness and quality, in an ideal world we would be able to predict what every customer was going to order, however this is not the case and occasionally we do run out. So once again our apologies and we hope to see you again on your next visit to grasmere.

We had visited the restaurant when it was Sara's back in 2006 but the experience under Lewis's is far superior. The food was excellent with hearty, properly cooked portions of deliciousness!! We recommend he slow cooked pork belly and chicken with chorizo. Being nosey we had a look what other people were having and their food looked equally scrumptious. Congratulations to the management and staff for making this a fantastic place to eat in Grasmere.

We are staying in Grasmere on a well deserved holiday. We only arrived this afternoon and we decided to take a early evening stroll with our beloved Westie Alfie. We noticed that Lewis's was a dog friendly establishment and went in. I can only say that the food and wine are superb my steak was cooked to perfection and the deserts are fabulous. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming and the staff were great we will be definitely visiting again during our stay. Thanks again for a great meal and welcoming our little Alfie and ourselves into your delight bistro.

4 of us stayed in Grasmere for a week and this was probably our favourite restaurant. The food was excellent as was the ambience. Staff very friendly and attentive. All in all a well located lovely restaurant. To make it 5 stars for me I would like to see slightly more choice of beer and better non-fish options for vegetarians - my wife does eat fish but it would be good to have non-fish choices without courgettes which a lot of restaurants seem to think is the only thing veggies like. Come on restaurants be more creative for non-fish eaters so my wife doesn’t have to eat fish at every meal out

Hi mark firstly we are pleased you enjoyed your overall experience with us. On the subject of vegetarian options we are only a small bistro with a tiny kitchen and limited storage, therefore we can only hold a certain amount of stock. The menu always has lots of vegetarian starters and at least 2 main courses besides the fish dishes so that is not bad out of a total of 9 main courses and reflects the amount of vegetarian customers we have. As for the limited choice of beer, storage space is also the issue, we can't please everyone as much as we'd love to, so we try to stick popular products.
Thankyou for you review and your comments will be taken into consideration.

We needed to book this restaurant as each night was busy, but we were not disappointed on our final night. The food was superb and we mean locally sourced, well presented, good value, fresh and hot and the treacle tart a trip down memory lane for my husband.
