We booked this hotel by chance. What a memorable few days we spent there.Everything we ate and especially the dishes on the evening menu was literally a wonderful experience. We ordered our 3 courses from the menu each evening but each meal had surprise culinary treats all along the way. Each evening started with delicious, intense but light delicacies while we relaxed in the bar before entering the dining room, Between each course was another small highly flavoured delight. Everything was well timed in the dining room. The tables are well arranged so that each table feels private and special, conversations don't carry across the room. The details such as the care and attention from all the dining staff added to our very special time spent at Rothay Manor. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.
The hotel is an old building which allowed for the refreshing change of having a sensible temperature within rooms and bedrooms with windows one could open rather than the drying air conditioning of more modern hotels.
The dining room was much warmer allowing one to 'dress for dinner' rather than wear suitable 'February in the Lake District' attire. However the real fire in the bar area was a luxury we enjoyed before our evening meals.More
