We stayed at Stag Cottage for 3 nights and I must say it was a wonderful experience and it's the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. It was beautiful, tasteful and very well equipped and we had a lovely welcome hamper full of goodies waiting for us on arrival. The big entrance hall was great for wiping the dog down after walking over the fells. The grounds of the cottage are really lovely too as is the village of melmerby. To sum up, Stag Cottage - FANTASTIC. We will definitely return. Donna, Trevor and our labrador Leo.

We stayed in Stag Cottage for a long weekend as part of a large group who were staying in Melmerby Hall next door. There is an adjoining door (in fact, you go through two doors) from the kitchen in the Hall into Stag Cottage so it lends itself very well to provide extra accommodation for the Hall if needed. Equally, if you were staying in Stag Cottage in its own right you would feel perfectly self-contained. Although we did not cook meals in Stag Cottage, we were aware that the kitchen is extremely well equipped. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable and the bathrooms were meticulously clean. The sitting room is a good size and I am sure would be lovely and snug in the winter. The garden is lovely and is enclosed which is great for dogs. It gets a lot of sun through the day and is sheltered so a pleasure to sit and relax in as well.

Melmerby village itself has quite a lot to offer with the pub, the famous Village Bakery, a little antique/second hand store and even a swimming pool and you can walk straight up on to the Fell from the village. The 5 mile drive or cycle up to Hartside Cafe is a definite "to do" with the reward of a meal or tea and cake in the Cafe and an amazing view towards Scotland and the Northern Lakes and Hellvelyn.

We would definitely like to go back and spend more time in Melmerby and make full use of Stag Cottage.

Stag Cottage is outstanding. We spent 6 nights here with our 2 dogs and the location is a perfect base to explore the Lake District and surrounding areas. It is very peaceful and quiet and the grounds are simply stunning. The walk in the private woods with the dogs was just the icing on the cake - it was so nice to be able to go out straight from the cottage door in the mornings before breakfast and then go further afield mid morning. The village of Melmerby is literally a stones throw from the cottage and it was great being able to pop down in the morning to buy a warm loaf for breakfast from the award winning bakery. The service given in enquiring and booking the cottage was also second to none - we really can't fault anything!
