Exceptional!, Wonderful service from the lady on reception on arrival. Nothing was to much bother. We had adjoining rooms both were decorated nicely, clean and we were all very comfortable. Breakfast was great, many choices and we were made welcome from the moment we stepped foot in the hotel and even after we left. One of our boys left his teddy behind and we received an email from the hotel offering to post it to us. Simply Great in a very nice location.
The hotel is very well adapted for the wheelchair user. Although the carpark is very small the staff went out of their way to provide us with a parking space during our stay. The rear entrance to the adapted room is step free and there is a lift to reception. The hotel is well situated for the Abbey and the ambience of the hotel is restful and welcoming. Breakfast is extremely good and the waffle machine a novel addition to the breakfast selection. Excellent adapted bathroom. The Cafe Rouge next door is also well adapted for the wheelchair user with a step free accessible WC. Excellent evening menu and helpful staff. A good choice for the wheelchair user to visit historical St Alban's. We had a mobility buggy which made the town and the Abbey easy to access, otherwise try Shopmobility in the town for a motorised buggy as it is kinder on the carer, St Alban's is hilly!
We had asked for a triple room on booking and when we checked in, but when we got to our room there was only two very small beds. We rang reception as we felt we were in the wrong room as it was very small and couldn't possibly fit in another bed, they assured us they would be able to and sure enough a third bed was squeezed in! That said the room was comfortable, warm and clean. The cost however was a little steep considering the size of the room/beds and excluded breakfast, luckily we had eaten at Café Rouge where they gave us a breakfast 2 for 1 voucher. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
Good location (about 20min by car from the studio), very near St. Albans cathedral and lovely small streets totally worth a stroll. Staff is friendly, rooms were roomy and clean (we stayed in a family room). Breakfast was pretty great with a wide enough range to please the four of us ... Not an easy feat. Want to come back to spend more time in St. Albans and will certainly stay at the Clarion Collection again.
I stayed at this hotel last night as a friend was getting married in St. Albans. It cost £99 for a twin room and, mistakenly, I thought this included breakfast. So we went down for breakfast this morning at 9.30. There were two pieces of dried up bacon left, and had to "slice" a piece of the scrambled egg. Sausages were OK. Bread was a bit stale, but toasted ok, hot cross buns were also very dry. It was only when we went to check out that we discovered that breakfast was NOT included in the rate we paid. So we then had to pay nearly £20 for t he two breakfasts. If I'd known we had to pay that I would have gone elsewhere for breakfast.
With regards to the room, it was freezing when we arrived but soon warmed up when we worked out how to turn on the heater (you have to put the key card in the slot just inside the door). The shower screen I think had half of it missing because the water from the shower splashed right the way over the floor to the sink.
Beds were very comfortable although they did seem to be on castors because they moved when you sat on them.
Staff were OK and supplied fresh towels very promptly when requested (although they were only bath towels rather than bath sheets).
