Review of Max`s Brasserie

Max`s Brasserie
Ranked #9 of 952 Restaurants in Southampton
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$4 - US$20
Description: Max's Bar and Brasserie is situated in the heart of Oxford Street that it is the site of Southampton's cosmopolitan. About Max's Bar & Brasserie There are many Italian or Italian style restaurants in the UK. In our mind there are two types. There's the national chain where everything is decided at head office and made to a particular price point. Then there's the authentic Italian run and owned family restaurants where food is passion and a way of life. We have nothing against the chains but we do things differently at Max's. When you visit Max's you're treated like a family member. You'll often find adjacent tables talking to each other and making friends. This isn't a marketing gimmick. It's just the Italian way. In the kitchen we have Gennaro from Napoli in the Campania region of Italy. Between them they have more than 30yrs experience in the kitchen. Everything on the menu is created with I don't forget to try the world famous Balsamic G&T ,,,

The restaurant is small and cosy, but the service and food are great. The wine list is excellent I had the cheaper Chianti but it was still good.

We arrived on spec and had the weekday menu. We both had the shrimp which was delicious. P had the veal and I had the lasagne. Everything was incredible. Service was great. We will definitely make this a regular dining venue

Gennaro is a creative chef. Every second week I find new dishes on the menu of Max Bar and Brasserie, that may be considered as a Mecca of gastronomy in Southampton nowadays. Of the sping menu available now, I would strongly recommend the sea-bass baked under a solt croast. This way of cooking perfectly preserves the flavor of a fresh sea-bass, that is essentially cooked in its own juice while at a sufficiently high temperature. Another hit of the season is the grilled duck breast that may be nicely married with a glass of Aglianico - a rare quality red wine from Apulia. On the top of all, I usually order my favourite dish: spagghetti aglio oglio peperoncino. The are of good spaghetti al dente is precious for this country. Gennario (the chef of Max) is doing it with a great care. Overall: bravo Max! Good food, good wine, exceptional service, reasonable prices.
