This was our second visit within 18 months and although the Royal Oak offers an abundance of character and is situated in a beautiful village, things seemed to have slipped slightly since our last visit. The welcome we received was not quite as friendly as previously and our food seemed to have dipped slightly in quality, but the whole atmosphere and where the pub is situated more than makes up for what we thought was missing.....food was still very good however.....their chips are still excellent...very good British pub grub in a wonderful little pub full of character.visited August 2017.

Had two meals at this pub and both were great. I had never had a Scotch egg (I'm from the USA) until I had a pub lunch here. The food was wonderful and I'm now addicted to Scotch eggs....

Met up with some friends here who spoke highly of the place following its recent renovation. Enjoyed a chicken pie and the others hake and chips and gammon, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and there was a lovely ambience in the pub until.... we had to endure the off-key impromptu singing by a group of women, hopefully that's not a regular occurrence!!

The redesigned, more open interior of The Royal Oak remains most welcoming and the adjacent open courtyard area has been significantly upgraded. The menu is interesting and food produced under its new cheerful management is excellent. I have been with friends on three occasions in recent months – the last time a week ago – and each has been as good as the first; am in danger of becoming addicted to the delicious asparagus risotto, but can also vouch for the generous bowls of moulles. The only fault is that the portions are sometimes too generous – but that hasn't prevented us leaving clean plates! Warmly recommend – just waiting for another excuse to revisit . . .
