I confess to being somewhat puzzled by the mixed reviews. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as well as the restaurant. That is not to say it was flawless - we were there on one of the coldest weekends of the year and the bedroom heating was intermittent at best and there was no heating at all in the large and otherwise well-appointed bathroom. However, these first-world dramas apart, the room was spacious and the bed comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the layout and space that has been created in the bar/lounge area as well as the restaurant. It was tastefully done and you did not feel either deserted in a vast expanse or squeezed into any corner.
We had planned to eat dinner in town but a heavy snowfall put paid to that. So we opted to eat in the Bistro and were very glad that we made that choice. Good ambiance and food that, whilst not being fine dining, was both tasty and well presented.
All in all, it was a very comfortable stay. So much so that we have booked into 2 other HDVs for planned visits to Bristol and Exeter. We are looking forward to it already.More
