Description: Brighton's critically acclaimed Terre a Terre is a vegetarian restaurant that will have even the most ardent carnivore waxing lyrical. Situated close to the sea-front. The decor is chic and stylish, using wooden floors and furniture to contrast with vibrant colours. But here the food is the centrepiece: dhal basmati buns with coconut curry leaf chatni, better Batter and Lemony Yemeni Relish and Thai aubergine jungle curry are just a few of the exotic and imaginative dishes you can find here. To complement the food, a large selection of organic beers, ciders and wines are available. A three course meal here costs an average of £30 per person. A refreshing take on vegetarian cuisine.

“Fantastic ...”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

...exemplary service (funny & friendly yet still impeccably professional), imaginative food, & great cocktails.

We were in Brighton for a conference and booked a table as my friend had eaten here on a previous visit & been very impressed. A few weeks later they emailed to say that on this particular evening there was only a set menu as it was a food festival promotion night. I can't, therefore, comment on the usual menu, but the set menu was amazing - so much so that I asked for a copy of the menu so I could do "food porn" with foodie friends! I was vegetarian for 20-odd years, & one of the things which bugged me then was the tedious textural monotony of most restaurant vegetarian food. This meal was the antithesis of the knee-jerk slop-on-a-plate veggie food of the 80s & 90s - fabulous flavours, with thoughtful and effective contrast of textures & culinary wit (but with a light touch - so often culinary wit segues into pretension, but not here).

Our main waiter (sorry - we didn't get his name, but from an anecdote, possibly Barry...? Sonny's friend, anyway...) is amazing.

So all in all - thoroughly recommended. The set meal included fortune cookies, which included a dare or request. Mine was to be nice about good service at some point if I thought I'd had some. I always do that anyway, so the dare was, I guess, wasted on me, but this review is at least proof of my having done so!

“No, I'm not a vegetarian either”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

Outrageously tasty vegetarian food, good wine and excellent service. The menu should come with a dictionary however – ripe with mind-numbingly pretentious claptrap – but the offerings are original, delicious and decidedly not for someone on a diet. Very popular and deservedly so. Okay, I don't eat a lot of vegetarian food, but this is the best I've ever had.

“I love meat - but I don't miss it when I eat here”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

Only been here twice, but both times the food was salivatingly good. A meal for the eyes before the stomach, and super tasty. If I could cook vegetarian food this good myself, with low hassle, I could give up meat in a heart beat.

“Best vegetarian restaurant anywhere”

The Japanese inspired aubergine dish was delicious; subtle oriental flavours. So good that we went back the next night and shared a Tapas plate; equally good.
