Stayed one night for Rockinghorse Ball. We were really looking forward to our stay following the well publicised refurbishment.
First impression was unfortunately poor. We waited 10-15 mins on check in, with not a word or acknowledgement from the two ladies on the front desk despite there being no queue. As previous visitors when they did get to us they didn’t say welcome back - a small point but an important one.
As CEO of the main sponsor I was disappointed to be allocated a very small room (433) with a poor view. Although the bedroom appears to have been refurbed (nice comfy bed and modern TV), the Bathroom (aside from some new Lino) was a bit dated and poorly maintained especially around the bath/ shower and the window.
The event itself was great - it’s a good venue and the food and entertainment was first class. However my allergy request was ignored when handed the main course. By chance this was picked up by one of our guests on our table which spared me a trip to the hospital. They ran out of water early on too, which was annoying.
Final gripe - the bill in the bar after the event was presented with a tip section when service had already been added on. I really don’t like this practice as it is misleading. Left a sour note.
Breakfast the following morning was good - quality of the food and service was excellent.
The above sounds a bit critical but in all honesty it was a disappointing stay given the fanfare of the recent refurbishment. It is magnificent hotel but there is still some work to be done, before it rivals other high class options in the city.
