Having lived in Japan and fallen in love with the food, I'd been on the hunt for somewhere to satisfy the withdrawal symptoms. Found it!
Not only were the flavours reminiscent to that which I enjoyed in Japan, they were coupled with incredible fresh ingredients from the UK and locally.
Went here with my parents, (who can sometimes struggle with unfamiliar foods) but I'm glad to say they're now converts. I recommend trying a variety as everything we had was lovely, but there are a few things not to be missed, and here's why...
Miso soup. Quintessentially Japanese, rich in flavour and dense in goodness. The charming gentleman serving us (Paul), took the time to explain to me the discerning process of selecting the ingredients, the miso soup benefiting so much from this careful deliberation.
Fish. Whether as sushi (with rice), sashimi (without) or as a main. We had halibut, salmon and yellowfin tuna. That which was cooked was done so to perfection, that which wasn't was delightfully fresh.
And anything that comes with the teriyaki sauce. Somehow, the sauce is such a perfect balancing act of salt and sweet. I don't know how or why, but it will make you very happy.
And lastly, the environment and staff were calming and professional, but not too formal as to be uncomfortable. Don't miss out on the added value of speaking with the staff. Paul was a pleasure to talk with, and very knowledgeable.
Strongly recommend, I'll be going back again soon!
