We have recently been on our first visit to Torquay and at first glance at arriving at this hotel we were a bit disappointed, but on the whole with the food -which was very good- and the entertainment provided, we had a very enjoyable weekend.
It is a quirky hotel and also has recently been bought by a family ( I believe) and they are refurbishing it room by room.
Everyone- from reception to waiting staff were very helpful and cheerful. Now we know what to expect there, we would definitely return in the future.
It is just a short walk into town, but just beware of some rooms where the lift does not go to- if you are elderly or have trouble with your legs.... Best to ask for room with lift access in advance as they aim to please.

Right let me tell you about the good things first , The nightly entertainment i could not fault , quality acts every night . The the restaurant was buffet style and for the money we paid was quite good mostly the same every night but adequate . The rooms were clean but we never got out towels changed for out four night stay .My main gripe and major complaint was the lift , believe me it is down right dangerous , as my mum was getting in the lift it closed on her and knocked her for six , it took a large amount of skin off her arm and badly bruised her shoulder , also when you walk out of the entertainment room there are a set of steps where the handrail ends before the last step .This cant be health and safety correct . Ohh yes just one more thing be prepared to have a long walk to the public toilets ,

On arrival at the hotel staff are very freindly nothing was too much trouble even when the room they gave us didnt suit our needs (which was our fault not theirs) within minutes of ringing down to reception they changed our room and had our cases moved to new one. Mealtimes were well organized and food was cooked really well meat was always tender. Yes rooms are in need of refurbishing but I hear this is underway. Our room was 504 and was bright and overlooked the gardens there was scaffolding up outside of our window but this didnt bother us. All in all would recommend this hotel.

Myself and my girlfriend (now fiancee) spent a magical weekend at the hotel. It had everything we needed. The room was spacious and although a bit tired had a really comfy bed and an extra bed and was well equipped. The hotel was lovely, everyone was pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was excellent self service which suited us. We didn't stay for evening meals mainly because of the amount of coach parties. The pool was nice albeit no showers but close enough to our room. We enjoyed a fantastic weekend and would definitely return again.

Room Tip: if youre disabled not upstairs
