“Random, but very good!”
Reviewed 19 February 2012

Quite quirky French cafe feel. We visited late lunch during Feb half term. Lots gone from the menue, so be sure to get there earlier if you want a full choice. Nice homemade soup, but from our visit it is the deserts that deserved the highest praise. The tarte au citron, though not set properly, had a fantastic intensity of flavour that had me scraping the plate.
Service was a bit dodgy, probably because it was busy being half term, but all done with a smile. Overall quite charming and well worth a stop for lunch.

“Head & Shoulders above all other cafes in Torquay”
Reviewed 9 February 2012

There is only ONE place I go to in Torquay for a light snack or Tea/Coffee and that is this place. A breath of fresh air in a sea of mediocre or downright poor eateries. If you are looking for the run-of-the-mill all day English breakfast then I suggest you look elsewhere, this is a sophisticated and cosmopolitan cafe, with food of the highest quality and a happy content and friendly staff who know what customer service is all about.

Value for money? Well I believe a friend of mine who is a professional and highly critical restaurateur has questioned the proprietress about why she was UNDER charging!

“An oasis of calm & cake.”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

My parents found Serendipity by chance on their search for a decent dry cappuccino & recommended it to my husband and I. We have been for lunch several times now and have loved it each time - the croque madames are to die for and the specials board is always varied and interesting. The home made pastries & ice cream look stunning, been too full to try them yet! Service is excellent, friendly and efficient. We take our 9 month old son and have found it advisable to book for lunch as there is limited space down stairs and just one high chair. Also no baby changing but we manage fine with a changing mat on the loo floor.
A real gem of a cafe which stands out a mile amongst so many other very average offerings in Torquay.
Looking forward to the next tapas night (sometime in Jan?).
