3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012 via mobile

I have stayed here a number of times.

On the plus side the staff are friendly and helpfully, the location is fantastic. Food not bad, little price, but the view from the restaurant probably accounts for that! Rooms are clean and tidy.

On the negative side, the shower in all the rooms I have stayed are pathetic, the rooms can be quite cold, and Internet access is expensive, when so many establishment offering free wifi why do they want to charge at all.

Stayed April 2011

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your comments with regards to your recent stay.

I was pleased to read that you had a good overall stay, with regards to the showers I wil pick this point up with our maintenace manager.
We do indeed charge for some offerings for the internet however the use of the internet at no charge is possible in our reception lobby and Arena sportsbar and our penthouse floor.

I hope that this will not deter you from coming back to to the Holdiay Inn Plymouth therefore I look forward to welcome you back personally.

Yours sincerely,

It was the first time we stayed here, the location is good, the rooms are fine (not fancy just fine) the staff were really helpful.

We attended an event for 250+ and the food was very good (when you are talking these kind of numbers).

The leisure facilities are clean, bright and very warm!

What was also interesting and very nice to know is that they have recently invested in a machine that uses food waste and makes it into blocks of fuel to burn! So I guess warm pool means people hadn't eaten so much!!

I would come back.

We chose the Holiday Inn because we had stayed there as a family a few years ago and found the hotel and amenities great, the staff were welcoming and very accomodating of small children.
This was to be a special trip away for my birthday and anniversay a rare occasion without the family. We decided to upgrade to an executive room, and what a waste of money. The bedroom had definately seen better days, the shower didn't work the furniture was shabby and the bed, pillows and duvet and been well used.
However the staff were friendly and accomodating and the communal areas were well kept shame it couldn't be said for the bedroom.

Room Tip: Dont choose an executive room - shabby and due a referb. you can get great views from the restaurant...

Once you have found the parking and shoe-horned your car in the exceptionally narrow spaces, you can wait for the lift to take you to the queue for check-in. Don't expect your priority card to get you express check-in; that area stands deserted as you wait for new guests to be asked to complete the priority club enrolment so that once enrolled, they can gain no benefit from speedy check-in at this hotel. Look forward to the comforting hum of air conditioning vents prohibiting the opening of windows at night. We were disappointed by the pent house restaurant, not allowed to see the view of the hoe, lest we disturbed the few guests in the restaurant, comforted by the fact that we were told there was nothing worth seeing, anyway! Pity as the view would have been spectacular. Be prepared to be ignored at breakfast with staff far too busy to check you in and show you to a table. On the other hand, be impressed by the reception staff who remember you and anticipate your needs. Unless you are a contortionist, you will need to get out of your car to insert the exit coin to leave the car park. Room adequate; good location!

Room Tip: Avoid second floor; noisy vents

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your review of your recent stay.

I take your comments on board with regards to the car park and the fact that you had to queue for check in I was pleased to read that you appreciated our reception team member who anticipated to your needs.
With regards to breakfast we indeed greet the guests personally and endeavour to enhance our service by "guiding" our guests to a table.
The windows in the bedroom can be opened to the norms of the current H&S regulations and indeed that is slightly limited.
I found it unfortunate that you were not able to enjoy our usual great views from our Penthouse Restaurant over the Hoe and Plymouth Sound.
I hope to be able to welcome you back at the Holiday Inn Plymouth at a next occasion and meet you personally.

Yours sincerely,

Willem Hamel
