Description: The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock’s restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed.

We stayed here for 3 nights ( see separate hotel review) and had dinner twice. This is a top notch restaurant in its own right . The cooking was of the highest standard , particularly the fish. A mackerel chargrilled with mackerel tartar and Japanese style pickled vegetables was just amazing . Crab ravioli with a crab soup , hake curried , both wonderful . I had tomatoes with feta melon and basil as a starter one night , the flavours and textures just a delight.puddings are (almost) as good. The breads served were great. Service by the young chatty but efficient staff was good but also gave you time to enjoy things.
Wine list expensive but not mental . Cocktails were very expensive but what do you expect. Views from the dining room were majestic . All in all a magnificent experience .

The Idle Rocks is one of the nicest places we have ever been. The setting is fantastic, on the water in a fishing harbour. The people are terrific, friendly, professional, helpful. The facility is stunning, beautifully laid out and terrific rooms. The food is perhaps the best part of the whole; we almost never eat in a hotel restaurant more than once, but at The Idle Rocks we did twice in four nights. We will return for certain.

Took the chance of there being availability for Sunday lunch whilst having a day trip to the lovely picturesque village of St Mawes and so glad we did. Walked in and asked the question 'what is the catch of today please' which was 1 of the options on the Sunday Lunch menu the young guy on the door wasn't to sure so he went to ask in the restaurant a very friendly female member off staff arrived promptly and explained what today's choice was I then asked if we could have a table for 2 she explained that it would be around 15 mins before one would be available I then asked if we could have a drink whilst we waited the answer 'of course no problem at all' I then requested the possibility of sitting on the outside terrace over looking the sea she explained that they were very busy and we would probably have to sit inside I said that I would really like to sit outside and she promptly made that possible. Already impressed we had a look through the menu whilst we waited for our drinks to arrive, drinks arrived promptly along with complimentary olives and nuts. We where then promptly taken to our table and the complementary bread arrived with olive oil and balsamic dip OH MY GOSH THE BREAD !!!! so so good, slices of sour dough, pretzel buns and savoury brioche buns. STARTERS......we opted for 6 Oysters for my hubby and the mackerel for myself both where absolutely superb. MAIN COURSES.....on recmendation we both went with the traditional Sunday lunch and I have to say it really was one of the best roast dinners we've ever had with everything being just perfect from the soft beef, good selection of perfectly cooked and seasoned veg, super tasty gravy, perfect roasties and a nice large Yorkshire pudding couldn't resist an offer of more BREAD. DESSERTS.... hubby went with the strawberries and I went with chocolate fondant again both where excellent. All in all I would thoroughly recommend giving The Idle Rocks a go the location is perfect ( make sure you book and reserve a table outside if the weathers fine), staff are friendly attentive and helpful and the food is fab. Price wise Sunday lunch was 2 courses for £30 or 3 courses for £37 the Oysters (6) where an additional cost of £20 excellent value for money for the quality of food which we received we can't wait to visit again and are looking to actually stay here on the experience we received today well done guys

On recommend from a work colleague we visited Idle rocks when on a boat trip from Falmouth. We had drinks on their terrace overlooking the sea. The service and location was first class, I especially liked the "nibbles" with the drinks. Next time we are in the area would look at staying in this wonderful hotel.
