Quick, tasty fish and chips, best so far in Port Isaac.Bit dark and pub like inside but what do you expect unless you get a window or outside balcony space.

A local pub with friendly staff who recommended the local gin. A nice view from the terrace across the harbour

Flying visit to Port Isaac. Restaurants all booked up but took a chance with the last table at the Golden Lion pub. Good decision as the fish was fresh, tasty and hot. Service was quick despite the numbers.

We had hoped to visit Mote but no seating was available on a Wednesday evening. We wandered up the road to The Golden Lion. The first floor offers a traditional pub setting, while the second floor has a somewhat less "pubby" dining area. Since they were also very busy, we were offered a small table in the pub area, with a time limit. (The view at window-side table upstairs was charming--boo hoo.) I ordered the cod and chips, and my wife ordered the crab salad. She said the crab was very nice, and thus the four stars. As for the cod, the batter was very nice, thin and with the right amount of crispness, but the fish was not as sweet as cod can be. We put this down to the cod probably not being locally caught. The chips (fries) were excellent, and the mushy peas were pretty good. Service was good and we appreciated being seated on short notice, but were sorry to have missed out on the table by the window!

we rented a flat across the street during our stay. Not only was the food good, it was reasonably priced. It was a cozy place and full of lively folk from all over! We needed the help of the lord of the pub when the flat above us was flooding our flat and he jumped in let us use his phone and called the owner of the business next door. Not to mention when my friend accidently left her wallet in the pub, he put it away for safe keeping and even tried to find her on facebook to get it back to her. His name is Mark, and even though we had to wake him early in the morning to get her wallet, he was gracious and helpful. I can't say enough nice things about him!
