We arrived with about 15 minutes to go before they stopped the lunches. They were welcoming and extremely friendly. We ordered two Ploughman's Lunches, one crab salad and one fish pie. We were not disappointed, every meal was beautifully presented and great to eat. We would recommend everyone to visit, what I believe is the oldest pub in Penzance. Staff great food fantastic.

Called in just for drinks. Sat in the bar area at a reserved table (planned on moving if the group came in, they didn't in the hour we sat there).

From our location we could see and hear everything including the 'restaurant manager' who's manner was poor to say the least. I believe even the bar staff were unhappy with his customer service skills.

His manner of dealing with customers who arrived looking to eat, without a reservation left a lot to be desired particularly in comparison with one of the female bar staff who was much more pleasant explaining to customers that they are very busy (7pm) and wont be able to provide a table until about 8:30pm, at least giving customers a choice. He however simply told customers, we are fully booked. Interestingly we observed at least 10 customers turned away in one way or another however, when one couple arrived without reservation for some reason the staff where able to find them a table. Not sure if it was the obvious wealth of the customer or perhaps they dine there often, which is fair enough.
Whilst claiming to be the oldest pub in Penzance, its also one of the grubbiest.

Recent visit very busy for evening meal. Still got us in the basement. No atmosphere wouldn't choose to eat downstairs. Food was average could not complain, plenty to eat if this is your fancy. Nothing wrong.

Surprisingly busy mid week outside school holiday. We got a table but it was in the cellar which does not have any atmosphere. The catch of the day in batter was excellent & was definitely very fresh. Chips rather disappointing though

Brilliant food, staff very efficient. Appears very busy most evenings so highly recommend booking in advance. We had 3 visits in our 7 days in Penzance. Spot on meals every time.
