Hotel is in a great location and we had no trouble parking. The entrance is beautiful with its sparkling floor tiles and grand chairs. The receptionist gave us a quick tour but our room was not ready. Reception took our number and said they would call us when it was ready. They never called us and when we returned around 1530 the room was ready.
We checked in to room 201 and on first view it looked very opulent with its chandelier and satin cushions and curtains. A large bathroom with walk in shower, double basin and claw foot bath. We also had a small balcony, standing room only but was still nice to have.
However, the reality was that the cushions were covered in stains, the carpet badly stained, pillow cases that were too small for the pillows revealing a very stained pillow, uncomfortable bed, cracked leather chairs and a sloping table. The wardrobe was a good size as was the fridge.
The tv came on several times through the night, we barely slept.
The shower wasn't very powerful and nowhere to put your shower stuff. But, the reason we checked out early was the fact our bathroom window opened on to the room next doors balcony. My husband went to use the toilet which was right under the window and all he could see was a guy sat in his chair. The shower was also facing the window and I certainly wasn't about to get naked in front of a stranger! I have submitted a photo.
We complained to reception who looked shocked when we showed them the photo. They said they will get the manager to speak with us the next morning before we checked out. When we checked out the next day, the reception staff knew nothing of our complaint and the manager certainly didn't contact us. Reception did say that the blinds were one way and the outside couldn't see in. I really don't think that would put me at ease!
Silks restaurant and champagne bar is excellent. The food is faultless and the staff were helpful and lovely.
We sat by the outside pool but not for long. Reception said towels were available poolside, when we got there and asked if there were any towels the staff mumbled 'I don't know'. There was no toilet paper in the loo. The water in the pool and jacuzzi was not warm. The loungers are not adjustable so you're either flat or you need to get a chair.
The hotel could have grand feel but so much of it appears to be never used. The bar lounge was never open, which meant no-one was sitting in that area, the area leading to the sun terrace which looked like another bar was not being used either. There just seems to be a lot of empty unused spaces, it felt like they couldn't quite afford to run the hotel fully.
Won't be visiting this hotel again. It is not cheap and it is not worth the money. It is relying on its location. I'm sure we are not the first to find faults and leave early, which is probably why they insist on payment up front.
The hotel are aware why we checked out early yet no-one in authority has bothered to follow up on the complaint with us. Very disappointed.
