“Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room & super dinner & breakfast!”
Reviewed 15 December 2011

I stayed here one night on business 2 weeks ago. On the the spur of the moment I took my elderly parents for a spontaneous birthday celebration and we had a great dinner! Staff were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were comfortable - a liitle cold when we arrived but once the heating was turned up they were snug. I booked a dinner bed and breakfast package for the three of us. Dinner was excellent and again nothing was too much trouble for the waiters and kitchen staff. I had to breakfast alone as my meet was in Truro the next morning. Returned after lunch to collect the 'Oldies' (its a term of endearement they are quiet used to my humour) and they had breakfasted an hour later than me. Having checked out of their room they spent a relaxed morning in the lounge reading the daily paper and books. One of the waiters brought them mid morning coffee and tea. Will I return yes I hope we do. Its a friendly and comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are of a better grade than the standard ones.

Stayed 3 nights with in-laws, husband & daughter and this hotel was ideal. Just a little bit too far out to walk to the beach/town etc. but very comfortable to stay in. Thought the meal was perhaps a little pricey (at around £28 for several courses) but they also do excellent bar snacks. My daughter enjoyed the leisure centre with indoor pool. Everywhere was clean and well-maintained but what really makes this hotel is the staff - they are so friendly and obliging (and patient with my elderly father-in-law)!

The only downside was that the hotel was very empty so lacked atmosphere (although this is not the hotel's fault). All in all I think the only thing stopping it from being a 4-star hotel is the lack of lift.

Would highly recommend it.

This hotel sets the bar for comfort and value for money, so rare these days. A decent sized double bed for a single traveller, bath and free wifi in the room, not to mention free access to a gym and indoor/outdoor pool (although I didn't work-out or swim on this stay). The staff were attentive and professional. Not to mention the stunning grounds and elegant decor. I will definitely be staying again.

Stayed here for a weekend in September. Hotel is old-fashioned (beds have floral bedspreads and blankets). We had a twin room and the springs would be felt through one of the beds, although both has seen better days. Overall cleanliness was fine but could be improved on. The room was small with quite a bit of furniture as is is sometimes the case with older setup they just are more difficult to keep clean. Toiletries were basic - shampoo, shower gel and bar of soap. We were in a room numbered in the 40s (cannot remember exactly) and it was next to a fire door which had no mechanism on it to stop it banging (and I do mean banging) every time it was opened - not very pleasant. Could hear everything going on in next room so not great sound proofing. Breakfasts were fine although not keen on the radio on in the dining room. Staff were friendly and helpful and location is good - nice and quiet and the walk into town was a welcome bit of exercise.

A good hotel, stayed two nights. Was in Room 15 which was on the small side, but with a double sized bed so not going to complain too much. Bed itself was typical UK Best Western, a very average night's sleep. Bathroom with shower only, but OK sized overall. Excellent lighting in the room, good to note if you are working.

Breakfast was cooked to order and excellent, reception staff were outstanding! Gym was more than adequate and the indoor pool, sauna and spa really made it a relaxing weekend.

Had dinner in the bar on the first night, it was OK, tasty, just seemed small for the price. Pints were about 3 quid each, fairly standard. The restaurant does a 5 course meal each night for something crazy like 28 pounds, but I cannot eat that much food! second night I had takeaway from the Penmere Fish bar and it was fabulous!

Parking and Wifi were free, as was a guest laundry (even had free soap and fabric conditioner!). Lovely grounds and comfortable seating areas to curl up with a book and a drink in the lobby area.

Uncomfortable point: the gym and pool complex was on the opposite end of the hotel from the bedrooms, and you had to walk through the middle of the bar and then through the outer waiting area of the restaurant to go back and forth. Got lots of stares with my dripping hair, but not really my fault!

Downside: noisy pipes! Wow, really some rattling pipes in this hotel, fortunately whomever was upstairs turned in at a decent hour and didn't wake up too early so it was a minimal distraction, but really have not hear clanging pipes like these in a long while!
