We'd been in Falmouth about four days before we finally succumbed to eating at Harbour Lights. Every day since we'd arrived we had seen a long, snaking queue from the chippy, so we decided we had to give it a try before we moved on. A welcome surprise were the seemingly homemade mushy peas - made with real peas! Definitely better than the neon, unseasoned mushy peas that most chip shops offer. But most importantly, the scampi was amazing; so fresh and juicy, basically, scampi as I'd never eaten it before. Great chips too; none of them were greasy or hard, which meant that I ate every single one.

We popped into here late one night having read the reviews. The queue was outside the door, so for quickness, we just had a large chips to get us on our way.

The service was fast and staff friendly. The portion size of the large chips was fine for two people to share.

We were surprised at the quality of the chips as they looked as though they had been cooked in old fat / oil and sitting for a while. Had I taken these home to eat, I would have thrown them away. We ate them in our car in the local car park.

The chips tasted OK and of potato, but some were tepid and others hot. We had hoped that with the queue of waiting people outside that we would be served fresh chips as the turn around must have been fast and fresh ones must be produced all the time. We did not have this experience and have had far better else where.

I guess we went on an off night. We would not return, based on our experience.

Unfortunately, it was raining, so we headed to the restaurant (I believe fish and chips are best eaten by the sea front). But, we had a great time, a great meal and greeted and looked after by lovely staff.

Thanks for having us!
