As the name suggests this hotel is a converted cotton mill. It's big and has undergone extensive restructuring. Both the food and drinks prices are surprisingly cheap. Parking space is considerable but when we visited road works in the area made it a bit difficult to access the site. However, it is recommended as a city centre hotel with access to many fine pubs and restaurants, and located close to the river.

Room Tip: My only warning about the rooms is to be careful of the hot water. It can be scaldingly hot!

We had a very nice stay at The Mill answer Spa. It's a great location for the city centre and the train station. We had guests come to visit too and the hotel had no problem with them parking in their private car park. We did the canal boat dining experience for Eddie's birthday and that was really special. We both loved it and the food was delicious. Afterwards there was a disco in the restaurant which was really good and made our evening complete. The spa facilities are very nice too and all staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. Sadly for us, the ignorant guest that stayed in the balcony room before us must have smoked in the room and it stank of smoke throughout our stay. Not the hotels fault as it's a no smoking zone throughout but reception did say that because our room has a balcony, smokers tend to think it's okay to smoke there. We would stay again but maybe not in a balcony room.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from chester town centre which makes it an excellent base for exploring chester. The pool/spa are lovely and were quite quiet when we were there. However, the service leaves something to be desired, we were booked on a 2 night package which included a bottle of wine in our room on arrival and dinner one of the nights. When we got to our room there was no wine and i had to call reception and ask for it to be brought up. We then had to be moved later that evening as water was coming through our bathroom ceiling, in fairness this was handled promptly and politely and we got a very nice room, much nicer than the one we were originally checked in to, but it was still a pain to have to move. The service in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast was rushed and we felt hurried, even though it was never busy. There was no cooked vegetarian breakfast option. Especially where dinner was concerned we felt very rushed, no one came to ask if our food was ok during our meal, which would have been nice as my husband had asked for the dressing to be served on the side and it was not. They also brought out the vegetables covered in cheese sauce which he hates so we had to wait while they went back to the kitchen and got some without. Overall we would stay again, but purely because of the location, the service really needs improvement.

I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend on her recommendation as she used to live in Chester and had also stayed at this hotel before. I was very impressed with the hotel from check in to departure. I liked how we were able to pay the full amount on arrival, so no deposit required.
The hotel looks lovely from the outside and inside. It is in a converted mill, which you can tell from the outside! The reception area and bar area at the front are both modern and stylish.
We were made to feel welcome and check in was efficient.
Our room was a nice twin room with 2 single beds, a lovely bathroom and coffee and tea making facilities. The room backed onto the canal area, but as it was directly above a seating area outside the back of the hotel, it was a bit noisy at times, although not too late at night.
We stayed for bed and breakfast, and this was a pleasant experience. It got a bit busy in the restaurant which I think was to do with it being Chester race weekend. But we got a table on both mornings and the food we had was very good. There were a selection of cereals, fruits, cheese, meats, croissants, toast, along with cooked breakfast items like sausages, bacon, tomatoes, eggs, beans, etc. I had a problem with my coffee and it was replaced quickly.
The spa and pool were on the other side of the canal, connected by a bridge. The pool area was lovely, very clean, and quiet. We also treated ourselves to a massage in the health club, which was a relaxing experience for a good price.
The hotel is located within walking distance of the city centre and the bus station. And being right by the canal, you can also enjoy walks along the canal. We also enjoyed a visit to Chester Zoo which is about 5 miles away, and we got discounted tickets at the hotel reception.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

A nice hotel and value for money in a crowded market.

About a 5 minute walk to Eastgate so well placed for the city centre

The staff are nice and friendly although I didn't need them much so can't really comment
We only had breakfast in the hotel and that was good buffet style food. Busy as you would expect but the staff are diligent and by and large keep on top of things. The dinner menu looked good but as I didn't eat there i can't really comment. The hotel has a real ale bar with a decent choice of beers at hotel prices.3
perhaps the worst part of this review, mine was tired and in need of a refurb but overall it was adequate.
would I go again?
Yes, its not bad and is value for money.

Room Tip: there are two buildings, would suggest the main block where the bar and restaurant is would be the better.
