My wife and I called here for a drink on our way into town. It was a quiet week night so the place was lacking in atmosphere. On arrival inside the place didn’t do a deal for us at all. Staff were OK but looked bored. Wouldn’t rush back.

Beautiful building, great location, decent outdoor area, good overall ground floor design, however it sorely needs to review the upstairs function room i.e install a bar or provide a drinks ordering system, ladies in heels should not have to traipse up and down stairs for their drinks, clearly mark the toilets as unisex so as to avoid some serious confusion, and for goodness sakes train the bar staff...we went for a function and our experience was: gave order of three drinks to barman, there was only one other customer at the bar, barman brought our drinks over to the one other customer, we told the barman that they were our drinks, he said sorry took our payment we retrieved our drinks from the one other customer ourselves, then barman came back and tried to give our change to the one other customer at the bar...this type of service from the bar was sustained throughout the night. We left at around 11pm and were stunned to see the ground floor bar area completely deserted, for a Saturday night within walking distance of town centre this was such a waste of a potential financial goldmine, whoever owns this desperately needs to get some serious advice.

My partner and I went to the Lock Keeper to attend a music event upstairs, which was great, Unfortunately there was no bar upstairs so we had to come downstairs to purchase drinks. I was quite surprised at first to find the bar/restaurant virtually empty on a Friday night but soon came to realise why. The music was just so loud it was deafening. If we had gone there for a meal we would have walked straight out. Its a shame, because it is a great location on the canal but its not much fun if you cant carry on a conversation.

Arrived at venue and was welcomed by a friendly young lady.... then it went down hill!!

Guy with the moustache went out of hos way to be friendly but the other gentleman serving needs a serious lesson in customer service!! I doubt he can even spell "polite" though.

Food service was ok considering they only had one chef in the kitchen and there was 17 of us in the group. Food was mediocre though and what one person ordered came vastly different to what another got (same dish). Raised issue with guy with moustache and then didnt see him again....poor effort.

Wouldnt recommend this venue again unless a huge overhaul in staffing and staff training was done.

Was here in the Summer but after this poor welcome...i wont be bringing my group back or recommend it.

What a great place for breakfast, overlooking the canal, it has a lovely atmosphere.
The manager made our time there feel very special, with his helpful friendly manor. He gave us great tips on we’re to visit that day.
The breakfast was delicious and served at a very high standard. We also visited every night on our way back to the hotel for a beer.
I would highly recommend this place for any occasion.
