This self catering cottage is 3 miles from the centre of Bristol with a direct bus link every 10 minutes and, with its lovely garden, it is an ideal place to combine all the fun and fascination of a visit to the great city of Bristol, with the joys of a rural retreat. The accommodation provides excellent comfort, and all modern facilities. There is a piano for guests to play, a picnic table in the garden for fine weather plus outdoor table tennis and games of all sorts. Bristol has so much to offer and a weeks visit would not do justice to all there is to see and do. The barn was originally part of the farm buildings, and evidence of the old range and bread oven are still in place as is the meat salting sink. There are flagstone floors, ancient stone walls and bedrooms under the eaves. It is a fascinating place!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

perfect location for a perfect holiday
The Old Barn, Trymwood is really the prefect location for a splended time. The house is wonderful. It makes one feel at home from the minute you walk in. We especially liked the kitchen equipment, the comfortable beds and the artwork which creates a unique atmosphere. Guests are allowed to spend time in the garden. This feels very relaxing and inspiring. We loved having our breakfast outside. Jane and Richard are very helpful and friendly hosts, respond quickly to all requests via email and in person, once you are at the barn. We love Bristol as a city and Westbury as the point to start exploring the area.

An absolute joy
I cannot thank Jane and Richard enough for welcoming to us this absolutely beautiful holiday cottage. Jane from the outset was incredibly helpful and quick at responding to correspondance. We were welcomed with delicious homemade cakes and this is the most delightful of barn conversions. It has a large lounge/dining area, 2 well sized bedrooms with space for a cot in the master bedroom, and a very well equipped kitchen. It also had a high chair and Jane had left some extra little toys for the toddler which she really loved to play with. But the real gem of this place is access to Jane and Richard's garden which is just stunning. A fabulous place for adults and children to get so much joy from. Jane is a wonderful owner who accommodated everything and more that we needed. We really loved our stay here and will absolutely be back. (We were a party of 3 adults and one child aged 2)

A absolute delight
We stayed here for a few nights as our daughter was getting married nearby. We couldn't have made a better choice. Jane was welcoming - with a delicious apple cake - and really helpful, and the cottage was perfect for our needs - to get a bride and hordes of bridesmaids ready and to relax, exhausted but happy, the day after. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated - the bathroom has some amazing lighting - and pretty much everything you could need is available. The beds are super-comfortable, and we loved having a fire in the stove on our last evening. We worked hard, and the event was lovely. Many thanks to Jane for making us so welcome.

Exceptionally well restored historic building with so much charm and character!
What a wonderful stay in a perfect location! We were visiting from the US, to see friends in the village and were joined by my mum from N. Ireland. Jane was very helpful providing information before we arrived and very accommodating with our delayed arrival and throughout our stay. On arrival there was tea, coffee, butter, organic milk and the most wonderful homemade cake that I think my mum will go back and stay at Trymwood just to eat more of that cake! Trymwood was more than we could have expected! It’s been restored perfectly, retaining the old stone in the walls, floors and fixtures holding all the history, but with the amenities of a modern home. The barn is attached to the main house and the garden out back is spectacular and seems to go on forever. Our 6 year old was enchanted to be in her own ‘Secret Garden’ with all the separate garden areas to explore. We slept each night with the main bedroom window open to hear the River Trym babbling beneath, and that just added to the experience. The Old Barn at Trymwood will be on our list for our next trip to the Bristol area!

Excellent place
Well this place was a surprise, a lovely surprise. We had trouble finding it but when we did it was excellent it was in a valley and it was like you were in a country village not near the centre of Bristol. There was a rambling brook next to the cottage , the garden was beautiful the cottage equipped with everything you might need including milk and a cake from the owner. It was easy to get into everything in bristol but lovely to come home to at night. I think this place will spoil me for any other place in Bristol.

Family weekend
For us with family nearby, the location was excellent. Westbury on Trym is a village in its own right with lots of local facilities and easy links into Bristol itself. At the end of a quiet road, the Barn is very quiet - only the babbling of the Trym burn and the church bells can be heard. The accommodation provides all that you need - and is spotlessly clean - and warm. The owner is next door should any help be needed. We enjoyed the freedom to come and go as we pleased

Highly recommend for families
We stayed at the barn with our two young boys while visiting for a friend's wedding. The barn is beautiful, exactly as shown in the pictures. Jane gave us a lovely welcome and was most helpful with local knowledge of parks for children. Both Jne and Richard were also on hand to answer questions when needed. The backyard is an explorers paradise for kids. We wish we could have spent more time there. The village is an easy walk awaywith some great pub meals to be had. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Jane and Richard.

Perfect location and wonderful garden
This was such a find for a place to stay. It was our family's first trip to the United Kingdom and to Bristol. The location was perfect for visiting the major sites in Bristol, access to the train station/bus and wonderful food options -- both restaurants and grocery stores. The garden attached to the location was wonderful. It was a little piece of paradise at the end of the day. We had lots of information included about Bristol and the surrounding area, suggestion on places to eat, visit and maps of the city. If we ever come back, we'll be back at the Old Barn too.

Beautiful cottage
A lovely cottage in a beautiful tranquil setting, yet very close to all local amenities and easy to get into the centre of Bristol. The property has been converted very sympathetically but has all mod cons and was very cosy. Jane and Richard are lovely hosts and looked after us very well.

There is plenty to see and do in the great maritime port of Bristol. Museums, art galleries, theatre, fine shopping areas, the dockside with its river boats. There are numerous parks and children's play areas, one within a short walk from the cottage.
