I love the feel of the place and the smells that only a steam train can produce. I have attended Dinner on the train and the Christmas train meeting Father Christmas, both events have been brilliant, enjoyed by all attending.

This is a great little railway, and is a great value attraction. Situated roughly half way between Bristol and Bath, the train travels both north and south of the station which is roughly half way along the line.

The gala days are brilliant with vintage buses in use as well, and an interesting option is to combine a train trip with a cruise on the Avon.

The cafe offers good value, and the staff are friendly and obliging. A good morning or afternoon out.

O.K. there are bigger, longer, faster heritage railways around Britain, with bigger locomotives, but the Avon Valley does what it does very well. The northern half of the line in mostly in a cutting, which allows for excellent sound reflection, smoke deflection and so on. At the end of the line the engine detaches, and runs back to the other end of the train, then down to the valley. The southern half of the joyrney follows the River Avon valley, giving some excellent views. It is a good value afternoon out. Look out for their Day Out With Thomas days, their beer festival, and Santa specials
