A very poor menu choice as we were told we have been so busy over the bank holiday that we now have a reduced menu
Fish n chips
Burger and chips
Chicken supreme
The fish and chips £14
You have to be having a laugh
Over priced won't be going back I'm afraid

Our son gave us a voucher for Sunday lunch at Callow Hall. Callow Hall is a beautiful old Hall just outside Ashbourne, it is large and made of stone and set up a sweeping drive off the road which looks very impressive. Unfortunately there had been a wedding at the Hall the day before and the tired balloons looked sad and scruffy as you drove up the drive and the candles left by the front door made it untidy, it would have taken a couple of minutes to clear them away, the staff had had all morning to clean up. When you walked through the heavy double wooden door to the well decorated house with several small dining halls and a bar, however, it looked beautiful!
The dining hall we were taken too was only about six tables, our table was next to the window with views of the countryside. This is a table for two and well worth asking for when you book.
The choice of the three courses was not as extensive as the voucher led it to be but the choices gave good variety. Every course was delicious, beef that melted in your mouth, chocolate brownie to die for! For Sunday lunch a choice of two meats, pork and beef was a disappointment, no Derbyshire lamb in the heart of the Peak District and no mash potatoes despite them being on the menu.
If only the same could be said for the service! At a venue of such a high calibre we expected manners and efficiency. My husband at 63 did not expect us to be called 'guys', there was no English mustard for the beef, a couple near us came in from the bar and were given each others drinks at the table and another couple waited 20 minutes for the menu for the dessert. My plate had a large chip out of it and the glass had a smear down it. One of the waiters white gloves were a nasty shade of grey.
Having said all this the quality of the food and the lovely surroundings made for a great Sunday afternoon, its a pity that the staff training was somewhat lacking.

We stayed from August 6th - 8th, the Hotel is beautiful set in lovely grounds. The rooms were lovely especially my parents room which was room 1. The food was very good both dinner and breakfast. Staff very friendly and attentive, and always looked very smart. I highly recommend this Hotel as a special place to stay. Thankyou.

I came here with a hen party on a Sunday afternoon and had a lovely experience.

The hotel and grounds are lovely and the afternoon tea was really enjoyable. Nice sandwiches, scones and cakes.

The service was good and we really enjoyed it.

Would definitely go back again!
