Four of stayed at this resort last week. The resort is very small. One entire pool and the piano bar were off limits under construction so that made options even less. The resort grounds and the beach are gorgeous and well kept. The outdoor grill and the Japanese were good. The food choices are very limted. We didnt care for the restaurants other then the Japanese. Example: Surf and turf was over cooked pork and shrip coctails. Even at resorts that cost much less you can get steak and lobster. Breakfast was the only thing good about the buffet. Pool was out of towels every single day! Could not go into the hot tub 3 evenings becasue of no towels, it was ridiculous. I wouldnt head to this resort if you are looking to have fun. The entertainment is little to none. We were so bored the entire week except when leaving the resort. Dunns Falls excursion is a must do and was our best day. We like Morris the bartender at the pool bar. Loud construction on the roof outside our window begininng at 5am one day, they offered a $30 credit for ruining our day, woohoo, not. The front desk tried to actually deny it until I showed them a photo of men hammering away on my phone. The couples massge on the beach was nice. The couple with us ordered room service one nigth and it just never showed up. The front desk had no explanation. Also, dont come here if you want any internet access. Free in loby (when it works. (which was seldom) They dont offer it for purchase.

We went to this resort as we were attending our daughter's wedding in nearby Ocho Rios.

Firstly let me say that the hotel in general was well run. The Aquamarine beach bar and Emerald bar were always busy and whenever a guy called Roger was there, service was faultless.

However, like the RIU next door it seems to have settled on the 'party crowd' as main customers. Average age was about 25-30 so we felt a bit old. There seemed to be a 'let's get as hammered as possible' attitude by the guests in general who were mainly from the US or Canada. There was alway whooping and hollering by the pools and you couldn't get away from daily noise at the main rear bit of the resort where the small private beach is. We booked a Sapphire mountain view room after reading other Trip Advisor comments and were pleased we did as it was nice and quiet. As a middle aged couple we thought this resort would be couples only and quieter but we might as well have saved some money and gone with the rest of the family who stayed in the RUI next door. The food was ok with breakfast being much superior to later meals. Enjoyed the gardens but the hotel is small and we could walk the beach area and the front gardens in a half an hour.

As English people, we are used to going on holiday and being able to walk outside of a hotel/resort to stroll around the nearest town/village/harbour. You cannot do this in this part of Jamaica so unless you get a cab (or the hotel bus) into Ocho Rios or any of the surrounding activity places, you are stuck in the hotel/resort. Visiting family in neaby hotels we had to pay anywhere between 70 and 90US dollars each to spend a day there.
Went to Ocho Rios a few times both with the wedding party and other visiting relatives and although it's a known cruise terminal the area around the port is just full of eateries and tat shops.

Near to hotel are Dunns River Falls, Mystic Mountain, and Dophin Cove. Dolphin cove was voted by the family as the best attraction and the best value for money. Bob Marley Home is nearly 1.5 hrs away and is not good value for money at all. This part of Jamaica is very expensive so don't expect a cheap holiday. Unless you don't leave the resort, you will easily get though 150 to 200 US dollars a day (and more). Meals in Ocho Rios places like Margaritaville worked out at about 40-50 dollars a head for basic burger and drinks without transport costs.

Again as English people the one thing we hate is being hassled and all of our party of 18 people complained about it. It is as bad as Turkey and North Africa for peddlers. Everyone it seems is trying to extract your money from you! From dope dealers to street husslers, it becomes wearysome. There are even deadbeats hanging around the enclosed beach wire fences either trying to sell you something or even cheekily asking if you will bring them drinks from your room and food from the Aquamarine outside food restaurant!

There are coffee makers in rooms (which can be used without filters to make tea) but getting a refill of any coffee, teabags or creamer was a hitty-missy affair with staff most days not bothering to replaced used items. Went down to reception one evening to ask for spare teabags and after being told they would be sent to the room, we had to phone down 3 times in nearly 3 hours before someone arrived with them!

There were empty cupboards which once held drink dispensers in the room. Our family told us that in the RIU next door their dispensers had 4 full bottles of spirits in and they were all free. As we had paid nearly 3 times as much as our kids/family in the RIU we wondered why none was available in this hotel.

Pools were very clean and the entire resort was tidy and well managed. Gardens were nicely kept. Staff were nice and friendly but we only tipped people carrying our cases up or downstairs, as us Brits in general only tip for exellent service. We did however notice a lot of Americans going up to the Aquamarine beach bar with a dollar in their hands for every drink! Very odd as no one got served any quicker or got any more booze!

The hotel provides plenty of transport and trip options with helpful staff making sure you are not let down. Plenty of activities in-house but again are around the main rear area and can be loud and boisterous. The spa was good and there was plenty of outdoor activities like tennis etc to play. It was just too hot when we were there to take part. Wi-fi so patchy you see people all over the resort leaning over balconies etc trying to get a signal!

All in all maybe we were expecting it to be the same as a Sandals Resort (which it once was) and just have to accept that it was a party resort instead. Happy in general but won't stay there again for the money.

Room tip: Sapphire mountain view, right side of main reception doors.

Stayed for 5 nights from 1-6Nov15... had not been since it was a Sandals and upon arrival, it still looked like Sandals Dunns River, just the names of venues/buildings changed.

We did not dine at Jade Samaurai and it is the only restaurant requiring a reservation. We loved Moonstone and Platinum; also ate a la carte breakfast at Platinum and it was very good.

Loved the Tree Bar Lounge and enjoyed the a/c Bistro Disco evening entertainment venue.

Our only complaint really was that wifi was only available in the lobby and even then not that reliable.

Service was very good at the front desk, restaurants, bars... no one employee really stood out to us but we don't have a complaint about any one particular employee either. Beach/pool towels were plentiful as were loungers at the beach and pool but you had to be up claiming shade fairly early; fortunately for us we were dealing with a time change, so was not an issue.

Very pleased with our stay and hope to return in the spring.

Be prepared to tip the staff for the wonderful service they provide...

I cannot say enough about this beautiful resort but I will try. First the staff is always amazing from the front desk, to the restaurant staff, to the bartenders, to the entertainment staff, the Massage therapists, housekeeping, grounds keeping, towel service, and waiters are all equally efficient and friendly. The grounds are clean, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The beach area is small but beautiful with kayaks, paddle boards, and catamarans available with instruction and assistance. LOVED it, will be going back soon.

Nice, clean property. Friendly staff and good dinners. Beach was very nice, so was the pool. The jerk chicken was outstanding. The bed and pillows were deplorable. Numerous guest (including us that stayed in the honeymoon haven) complained daily of sore backs and necks. Choices at breakfast and lunch were very limited. The drinks were very sweet and not the true liquor being poured. Mini bar was a joke. 90 minute ride each way from the airport. I will stay in Montego Bay next time.
