I went along on a family trip with my brother and his family to Fairmont over Christmas weekend 2017. We had 2 rooms side by side to accommodate all of us and were very pleased with the rooms and beds.

Room tip: This large family room was very spacious but we did not have children with us only 3 adults.

Fairmont Hot Springs is magical at Christmas. Against majestic mountains and fluffy white snow, the lodge offers a fabulous lighting display throughout the property. The display lights up piece by piece from late afternoon and similarly lights turn off slowly over a couple of hours in the morning.

By comparison, we visited the UK a couple of weeks ago and paid a goodly sum to see a new Christmas light display in one popular Christmas town. The UK display had plenty of animation and color, but paled against the free lighting display at Fairmont Hot Springs. Fairmont's lights were really magical and much more elegant -- we were truly impressed!

The hotel itself was excellent. As in previous visits, the beds were excellent quality (firm, yet soft top without sags, good quality bedding). The rooms are spacious with complete amenities. (You can ask for a kettle if you prefer tea, sharing coffee, and avoiding pod pollution.) The guest hot springs are warm and well maintained; the in-room housecoats are welcome on the cold days. Front desk staff are friendly and reasonably efficient. Staff were very efficient at shoveling snow off the paths and driveways. Much appreciated!

Breakfasts are almost always prepared well and reasonably priced. Dinners are less reliable. Salmon was excellent, but fish/chips were not (salty chips, overcooked fish -- --same problem during our September trip!). Also, the side salad at Mountain Flowers is served in the same size tiny container as the tartar sauce condiment, whereas the side salad at the pub next door is served in a normal size small bowl.

This is a rustic well maintained resort with mineral hot spring pools, including a guest only pool. Good restaurant, coffee shop and pub with nice menu selections. We stay in the resort about four times per year and in the summer park our motor home in their wonderful RV Park for a week or so.

We have not been to the Fairmont wine festival for a few years. Our loss.....last nites edition was very good. I will first mention the food. Overall the resort did a great job with a nice selection of hot and cold appetizers. Two carving stations as well. Also a cheese and cold cut station provided by a partner.
The wine selection from 20+ British Columbia wineries/vineyards was excellent. Got to try some wines I never would have. Some local valley businesses were also showcased. Special mention to La Galleria for an interesting selection of wine glasses.

Enjoyed the hot springs pools but we were shocked at the poor overall condition of the resort. Interior cafe furniture was scratched and seats broken. Light fixtures needed bulbs. Carpet stained and worn. The pools ladies dressing room lacked doors or most were broken. This is supposed to be a classy place to visit but the decay is sad to see.
