Forget trying to park downtown. This charming lodge was very clean and had excellent mattresses. The Knot Pub, a local favorite, is right across the street. I highly recommend it.
The only drawback is the steep stairs. There are rooms downstairs if you have trouble with stairs.
Check-in can be confusing. There is not a proprietor on site. We arrived a little prior to the 3 PM check-in, and found a phone in the vestibule with directions to call a number. No one answered, but a push at the door allowed us to find the housekeeper who gave us ice water and showed us into a parlor with books on sail boats and sailing routes around Nova Scotia. Andrea arrived promptly at 3 PM. She was a delight to talk to, and shared tips and personal anecdotes with us which added to our experience. She recommended the Knot Pub (locals park at the rear).
There is more than one building in this hotel, so additional rooms are to be had. We only stayed in the main lodge. A continental breakfast was delivered to our door with baked muffins, and a Keurig was available. If you are not familiar with these coffee machines, ask Andrea upon arriving.More
