Really enjoyed the Saturday night seafood buffet. The buffet was extensive with perfectly cooked salmon, halibut; the crab was excellent!

The meals are buffet. Breakfast and dinner. The breakfast is set up very well with choices from Eggs Bennie to pancakes and lots in between. No limits so you can fill up. It is complimentary if you are staying at Painter's, but if not - it will set you back $31.90 per couple!

Dinner is set at $39.00 per person. All sorts of choices - and onWednesday they have a seafood extravaganza with crab, mussels, salmon on a plank, halibut and all manner of sides to pick from. Seconds are encouraged. Oh and there are a few desserts to choose also. A good wine selection is available with some good ones at "by the glass" so you don't have to buy a bottle. Fair prices for what you get.

It is not a bargain, but it is wonderful to sit by large windows or outside looking over the ocean as cruise ships glide by.

Loved it for two evenings.

Very disapointing main evening meal, buffet style, items missing from the hotplates and having to wait for refills that were not hot in the centre.
A far cry from our last visit here, when the service and food was impecable.
Breakfasts were not much better, and we were completley ignorede on the second morning.
Last time, sorry.

First off...the service was exemplary and the view absolutely stunning.......
The food however, less than you would expect @ $40.

The menu was as follows:
Seafood Bouillabaisse(clams, mussels, sockeye salmon, halibut)....barely warm, but nice enough

Boston Clam Chowder....absolutely delicious. Very rich, flavourful and brimming with seafood. Probably the best item in the buffet.

Small selection on fresh salads ie: make your own Caesar salad, and Pepper Arugula salad, Misc. pickles and cold vegies.

Breads (Warm Foccacia and balsamic vinegar reduction/olive oil brought to the table)

Potatoes, rice, stuffed tomatoes, roasted beets or mixed grilled veg. Nice enough, but tasted like it came from a steam table.

Butternut Squash Ravioli with baby shrimp and creamy leeks....sounds nice, but the little rounds of leeks were barely cooked and the ravioli was very, very bland and there were only 2 little shrimps balanced precariously on top of each of the large raviolis. They were constantly running out of these and it was a "hit or miss" whether you actually got any.

Halibut served with seaweed salad and saffron citrus butter.....This was quite nice...if you could get any of the halibut as people were helping themselves to quite a lot all at once. They did leave all the seaweed salad which was actually tasty. I thought this dish had a very distinct Asian flavour to it.

Whiskey-glazed sockeye salmon. This dish took away from the salmon, rather than adding or enhancing it. Our portion was barely cooked and the glaze over-powered the delicate taste of the salmon. Real pity as sockeye salmon is absolutely wonderful all on it's own...when properly prepared.

1/2 Dungeness Crab served at the table, when you were ready for it. Locally sourced crab is usually soooooo tender, sweet and delectable than it usually just slips out of the cracked shell and into your mouth. The crabs were quite small and I don't know if they had been previously frozen, or cooked improperly, but the meat was very, very difficult to get out of the shell. It came out it shreds and by the time you had expelled all the energy trying to get the meat out.....you were hungrier than when you started.
There was no offer of another serving of crab.
I had to ask for a finger bowl as there was bits of crab clinging to everything that I had touched. No extra napkins were supplied with the finger bowl.

The meal was ended with a dessert table.......EVERYHING was yummy.
Triffle
Tiramsu
Cheesecake squares
Key Lime Pie squares
Carrot cake with walnuts and cream cheese icing
Fruit tartlets with custard filling
Large choc. cookies

I felt that the chef/s tried too hard to make the seafood dishes more complicated than it needed to be. One of the kitchen staff/chefs looked quite agitated each time he came out of the kitchen to re-fill the items.

As I am a "local" I feel sorry for the visitors that perhaps tasted our "local seafood" for the first time tonight. Their impression of it might not be very high.

There is no menu any more for dinner, just a buffet. At $40 one would expect a good selection, well cooked and well presented. Sadly, this was not at all the case. Poor selection, poor presentation and very poor food. The only good thing about our meal was the pleasant lady who served us. After going here many times over the years, always pleased with the experience, this was very disappointing. We were told the Sunday brunch is unchanged, hopefully this is correct. If this is the same standard as the dining room I don't think many people will make a second visit.
